The War of the Worlds broadcast is an example of mass hysteria, in which "numerous people engage in frenzied activity without bothering to check the source of their fear" (Thio, 407). When Orson Welles' infamous broadcast aired on the radio in 1938, nationwide panic ensued as many thought the radio drama was a news report of real events happening, which included a Martian invasion, meteorites, and other catastrophies. Around 1 million people were convinced that these fictional events were real, and many fled their homes and desperately hid or called the police.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPEn5k55g-o

This infograph is an example of the convergence theory as it shows how Western and non-Western is being shared and creating a global society. The book attributes this phenomenon to "modernization", stating that "multinational companies will make non-Western societies adopt Western ways of living and virtually all Western values" (Thio, 415). This example is based on Japan's shopping habits and through this we can see how they are increasingly adopting our culture into theirs.
https://www.myus.com/blog/japanese-buying-from-usa/

This comic shows how societies gradually change over time from simple to complex forms, which is called the evolutionary theory (Thio, 417). This theory emphasizes the progression of societies from savagery, barbarism, and civilization. As time passes in the comic below, the progression of our society's values can be seen as we move from uncivilized thoughts to enlightened modern thinking.
https://me.me/i/a-history-of-western-sociology-reformation-medieval-some-people-are-19040661

Conflict theory, which sees society's change as a result of conflict between two forces is represented in the visual below (Thio, 419). Marx believed the economic inequalities between the bourgeois and the lower class would eventually
fuel a change in society in order to fight exploitation on both sides.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_c2p0Y7mgU

Different generations view society differently because our world is defined by the way we view society, which is constantly changing. This comic is an example of how social change influences social interactions (Thio, 421). In traditional societies (before smartphones), people tend to see themselves as part of a larger groups and feels happiness as a result of interpersonal relationships that are characterized by genuine interactions. On the other hand, people in modern societies, or the "after smartphones" group, view themselves as more independent and value privacy over open interactions.
https://me.me/i/before-smartphones-how-old-is-barbra-streisand-thinkreally-barbra-streisand-20048694

Society has changed in many aspects since the 1970's, from the economy, to living standards, to education. One prevalent change in society is the income of the average family rising due to increasing amounts of women joining the workforce along with their husbands (Thio, 421). This revolutionary change shown in the graph below is the reason why families now are more likely to rely on two incomes, though women still continue to earn less than male workers.
https://ourworldindata.org/female-labor-force-participation-key-facts

The future of society will cceratinly see demographic shifts, esopcaelilly in immigration numbers. The article below is an example of the book's claim that because "immigration accounted for over 40 percent of the U.S. population growth over the last decade, most new Americas will have come from foreign countries, rather than being native born" (Thio, 423). The future rise of immigration in the U.S. will significantly increase social diversity in our country.
http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/10/05/future-immigration-will-change-the-face-of-america-by-2065/
