Have you ever tried to explain the shape of a thing which seems to blend into the world around it. It's green fur looked like shifting pile of leaves and moss while the black, stump-like legs looked just like the tree trunks surrounding it. The mushrooms that grew on its back didn't look out of place in the fungus covered woods and even the smell of it reminded me of the smell of freshly damp dirt and mud. The only thing which distinguished the creature from our dark surroundings were the pure white that seemed to radiate from its tall antler. It seemed to look through the dark of the forest with ease, and when it fixed its surprisingly calm and comforting gaze onto me, I noticed that the sounds of birds and insects seemed to fade away. It held its gaze for a few more moments before turning away and galloping deeper into the forest.

Late one night under a street lamp, I found myself thinking. The world around me seemed so… dreary. In the darkness, I could make out no colours, only the oddly shaped blobs littering the sidewalk. I continued on with my journey, in search of a place of life. I was running out of hope, as this all consuming city seemed to be draining me to my core, when I noticed it. A speck of light, far in the distance. Instilled, I felt myself brightening up as I ran and ran with all my worth. That light which at first had been just a small blip was now a magnificent giant beacon, lighting up the sky and the world around in an array of different colours. I had finally found it. A beautiful rainbow, a home, and it was mine.

Standing on the edge of everywhere I saw a thing in the distance… A giant pirate ship, sailing across the sea. The captain stood at its bow, charting their course to Sand Island, his hair blowing in the breeze. I was soon to discover that this, however, was no ordinary pirate, and no ordinary ship! The captain rubbed his belly… he licked his lips… and then… he sunk his teeth deep into the Grand Ship’s mast. You might think this captain was crazy, that he had been lost at sea for too long, but somehow, as if by magic, the mast fully restored itself. For you see, the Grand Ship was made entirely out of chocolate! Suddenly, the sky burst into flames as a meteor came hurtling towards The Grand Ship. Noticing this, the captain spun the wheel around and around, safely steering the ship away from the meteors destructive path. As the meteor came crashing into the ocean, it created a giant wave that pushed The Great Ship all the way to Sand Island where the captain claimed his treasure.

Standing on the edge of everywhere I saw a thing in the distance, just managing to break the surface of a new body of water that is yet to be named. At first I had only seen what looked to be the fin of a shark swimming closer and closer… until it stopped just a few feet from where I stood. My usual instinct would have been to back away, but something about this creature didn't seem normal, and I was curious. So I waited. I waited, eyes unmoving from where the fin had settled. Then, to my surprise, a face emerged from underneath the water. Although it had the fin of a shark, it certainly did not have the head of one. Instead, it was a seal, looking up at me with its enormous yellow eyes. I made a noise in shock and confusion, which must have startled the creature, as it then dived back into the water and revealed another unexpected feature; a platypus tail.

The Mermaid Kingdom - Number 0

Have you ever tried to explain the shape of a thing so magical? That even trying to put pen to paper with hope that even drawing out its unparalleled beauty does simply not do it justice. I have, and I spend each day working to the very core of my being to find a word, a term, a way to explain what this shape I see will come about and free me from this cycle. I wish I could see it again, just one more look upon its grace that even all of the seven seas could not explain, and I may be able to find that word, that I am so desperately looking for. But sadly, I must confess it is well guarded, sealed away from me so that I cannot see it again and by those who do not appreciate its beauty like I do. So I come with a plan, a masterful plan, a plan that they will look back on and praise for its brilliance. To ‘borrow’ this thing from a Queen who does not appreciate its magic.

Have you ever tried to explain the shape of a thing that defies explanation? That no matter how much you try to focus - to identify - your eyes slip off, diverted to the side like two magnets facing the wrong way. How many times, I wonder, have you caught something out of the corner of your eye that your adult brain tells you to turn away from? That you brush off as the light doing funny things and your mind playing tricks on you. Children, I find, don't seem to have this case of wilful blindness. They see what is, and accept, mentally adding it to the growing list of things that they don't yet understand but are told they will someday.

Have you ever tried to explain the shape of the Dimantic? Found at the top of the world hanging from far up above, it appears to only hold the form of a square like shape. But as you get closer to the hanging shape, the Dimantic has thousands of layers moving into place. The Dimantic holds colour unlike anything you have ever seen. Warm light from it’s centre indicates that it is ready to be seen. As you begin to explain your day to the Dimantic, it picks up your mood and moves it’s shapes around in order to adapt its colour to what you truly feel on the inside. As the colours begin to change, so do the sounds of everything around you. Each layer of a shape has a different sound, making up the orchestra of an eclectic symphony. The Dimantic may seem like any old basic shape, but when you give it some time and a piece of your mind, you’ll realise that the Dimantic is one of a kind.

You just can’t look down on it for its differences in looks but what those differences bring. From the platypus, its intelligence, the shark, its tenacity, the seal, its playfulness and the dolphin, its freedom .

"Have you ever tried to explain the shape of a thing that looks familiar, but you can't quite put your finger on it?" Gargor asked sleepily. The seagull perched on top of the rocky horn between his eyes stared blankly at him before squawking rudely and flying away. He stands up slowly so the flora and fauna in his joints remain undisturbed. Gargor feels the life dwelling on his back begin to stir as the trees take their morning breaths and the animals begin to run and play. With a deep breath, he begins his walk. The thought of another blissful day propels him forward. The ground beneath him shakes with every step and he looks towards the ocean. He hasn't been to the ocean in years, and he wonders if anything has changed. The bank of sand is a one-step distance. The sounds of bending trees and cracking rocks can be heard from miles away as he bends his neck down towards the water. His reflection remains the same as he carries on along his ever-changing path. The mountains he resides on would be difficult for any creature to navigate, but not Gargor; he climbs and descends them with ease thanks to his gorilla-like physique.

Late one night under a street lamp, The Great Darkness emerged at the edge of the light. It’s soft, woven fur looked to be made up of the living forest ground, with wave-like grass and mushrooms emerging from it’s hind, the gentle giant smelt of a sweet morning dew. When The Great Darkness walked, it left pale glowing treestump steps that shimmered under the lamplight. Though The Great Darkness appeared to hold the weight of the world, its’ steps could not be heard, but instead, it’s every movement played to the frequencies of an ethereal melody (synthesized harp or violin). The Great Darkness has seen some of the darkest days on earth, true sorrow and loss that no other creature would ever want to endure. Yet, this creature stands tall, with the embodiment of a warm hug you would get from a cold winter's day.

Have you ever tried to explain the shape of a thing that should not exist? To comprehend the point where the physical meets the theoretical, where one plane meets another, where code meets colour, meets shape, meets life. In theory, it should be simple. A being made of zeroes and ones is just that - lines and numbers set with the promise of something more, hand-picked for a purpose beyond the fingers that typed them - But human beings are fallible, and therefore so are their creations.

It's a lonely thing to be a creature born of failure - to have your existence entirely defined on what you could have been, should have been. Shifting yourself at light speeds to fit the gaps, screaming colours and and flashing sounds against the darkness, shining light where no wants to look, until you create your own kaleidoscope worth seeing.
