Louis Vuitton

- When he was only sixteen years old, Louis Vuitton made a decision that would not only change his own life but the lives of his sons and future generations: he would become a trunk-master.

- Louis Vuitton's heritage as a trunk maker preceded even the founding of the company.

- It was in 1837 that a 16-year-old Louis Vuitton arrived in Paris by foot and started apprenticing for Monsieur Maréchal. At the time, horse-drawn carriages, boats and trains were the main modes of transportation, and baggage was handled roughly.

- Travellers called upon craftsmen to pack and protect their individual objects.

Louis Vuitton quickly became a valued craftsman at the Parisian atelier of Monsieur Maréchal.

- These were the roots of his highly specialised trade; the beginnings of his career in an artisanal industry that called upon skills to custom design boxes and, later, trunks according to clients' wishes.
- Louis Vuitton stayed for 17 years before opening his own workshop at 4 Rue Neuve-des-Capucines near the Place Vendome.

- The early success of Louis Vuitton meant he had to expand his operations. This lead to the 1859 opening of his atelier in Asnières.

- The original atelier has been expanded throughout the decades—including the addition of the Vuitton family residence—but it is still where products are crafted today. While the family home has been preserved and is part of a private museum, 170 craftsmen work in the Asnières workshop, designing and creating leather goods and special orders for clients around the world.

- I chose to look into the Louis Vuitton fashion brand as I was interested in how the brand started off from scratch, being a small trunk manufacturing business to now a world known Fashion Company that is well known for it’s designer handbags, and other fashion items, like clothing and accessories.

Handbags

I chose to look into Handbags and use this as my key fashion item as I think the handbag style has changed a lot, going from chic and elegant to abstract design bags. Handbags are worn either as a statement piece that pulls the entire outfit together, a stylish accessory that can show a person’s fashion taste, personality, or even their social status, or just a simple utility item.

The brand I am doing research on is Louis Vuitton, a high end fashion brand, that grew from designing trunks to now popular handbags and other Fashion pieces.

As for my poster, I am aiming to create a visualistic cover that is advertising a handbag piece on behalf of my chosen fashion company.

Testing out tools from Photoshop : Experiment using the Timeline tool
test out taking shots of a bag just spinning at an angle, in a corner of a room
Try also dropping the bag onto the floor, almost giving it a bouncy effect
Go on photoshop, test out the timeline tool, add the photo multiple times but in each shot, change up the colours on the bag or even just the background.
Test out the colours and experiment changing a certain part of the poster and change around the colour of it.
Play around with the angles and shoot from different point of views

Test out shooting the handbag from different angles and experiment with the lighting, background, shapes and effects
Test edit to change colours of the background and add motion
After being inspired from Pinterest Handbag Posters, I really liked how certain posters used shadows the create an image with the handbag so I decided to recreate some shadows myself to use for my poster.
These are some of the shadow images that I captured. I wanted to photograph strong, solid silhouettes of a hand so that I could later on select these on photoshop and attach it onto the images I took of the handbag.
These were the first posters that I had edited through Photoshop, however I didn’t like the outcomes of these as they felt too boring and plain.
Also, I was intrigued by the floating handbag poster so this was something that I had also tested out and recreated.

This is the final outcome of my 2D poster. I think the final result was a success as it achieved the look I was going for, where the handbag and the shadow of the arm going in to grab, id the main focus point. I added on the ‘Louis Vuitton’ brand name in the background behind the arm and bag so that although the main image is the handbag being advertised, the brand name was still visible and known.

This is the final result of my Motion poster. To create this animation loop, I used the Timeline frame tool, where I was able to add in the three designs that run through each one for approximately 20 seconds. The loop was created because I exported it and turned the short video clip into a GIF. Also, similar to the 1st poster, I added no other text apart from the brand logo again as I wanted it to be simple and focus on the image and the graphics.

1st Poster:

For my 2D poster, I used Photoshop to create and put together my posters. I used these images to create my poster.
I used the blur, healing, and selection tools to cut out the objects and blend them into each other.

Motion Poster:

As for my motion poster, i decided to go for the graphic animation on my poster rather than a moving handbag poster as I wanted to design a more abstract, chaotic poster style.
The abstract shapes/ designs were created using the Pen tool as I was able to draw out the shapes and make a sort of border around the handbag.
I also, added text to each design images, of the brand name, just to present the handbag with the chosen Fashion Brand.
