Πασιφάη

Η Πασιφάη, κατά την ελληνική μυθολογία, ήταν κόρη του Ήλιου και της νύμφης Περσηίδος, αδερφή του Πέρση, του Αιήτη και της Κίρκης και σύζυγος του βασιλιά της Κρήτης Μίνωα.^[4]^[5] Απέκτησε τέσσερις γιους και τέσσερις κόρες: τους Ανδρόγεω, Κατρέα, Γλαύκο, και Δευκαλίωνα, και τις Αριάδνη, Ξενοδίκη, Ακάλλη και Φαίδρα

Ο μύθος

Όταν ο Μίνωας ζήτησε από τον Ποσειδώνα ένα θεϊκό σημάδι ότι μπορούσε να γίνει ο βασιλιάς της Κρήτης, αναδύθηκε από τη θάλασσα ένας πανέμορφος ταύρος για να τον θυσιάσει. Η ομορφιά του ταύρου όμως έκανε τον Μίνωα να τον λυπηθεί και να θυσιάσει άλλον ταύρο στη θέση του. (Επειδή ο ταύρος αναδύθηκε από την θάλασσα, πιστεύεται ότι ήταν ο ίδιος ο Ποσειδώνας. Μία άλλη θεώρηση λέει ότι ήταν ο ίδιος ο Δίας, καθώς οι Κρήτες πίστευαν πώς ο ταύρος ήταν η παρουσία του μεγαλύτερου από όλους τους Θεούς). Η οργή του Ποσειδώνα για τον εμπαιγμό του Μίνωα ενέβαλε στην Πασιφάη ερωτική μανία έτσι ώστε να ερωτευτεί παράφορα τον ταύρο. Η τελευταία διέταξε τον Δαίδαλο να κατασκευάσει ένα ξύλινο ομοίωμα μικρής αγελάδας κούφιο εσωτερικά προκειμένου έτσι να προκαλέσει τον ταύρο. Με την ένωση της Πασιφάης και του ταύρου γεννήθηκε ο Μινώταυρος (Αστέριος), που είχε σώμα ανθρώπου και κεφάλι ταύρου.^[4]^[5]

Στη Πασιφάη αποδίδονταν επίσης γνώσεις αρχαίας μαγείας (όπως στη Κίρκη και Μήδεια) με την οποία και μπορούσε να θανατώνει κάθε γυναίκα που υποπτευόταν ως ερωμένη του Μίνωα. Μπορούσε να τις μεταμορφώνει σε φίδια ή οτιδήποτε άλλο προκειμένου να καταστήσει τον Μίνωα άγονο. Η Πασιφάη λατρευόταν κυρίως στη Κρήτη αλλά και στη Λακεδαίμονα ως μάντισσα και χρησμοδότρια. Στις δε Θαλάμες Μεσσηνίας, σύμφωνα με τον Παυσανία, υπήρχε προς τιμή της άγαλμα που βρισκόταν σε ιερό, παρακείμενο του Ναού του Ηλίου.^[6]
