How is this an example of a talk story? What is the moral?
This is a talk story because it is a story that her mother is passing down to her to try and teach her a lesson. It might not even be completely accurate because the mother is trying to teach her daughter, and talk stories are changed to fit different situations. The quote, "Now that you have started to menstruate, what happened to her could happen to you" (Kingston 5), exhibits how the mother decide to share this story with Kingston in order to teach her to not humiliate her family and to follow society and the rules that are put in place by it.

This is an example of a talk-story because Kingston's mother wanted her to not do what her aunt did. However, Kingston's reason for putting this story into the book was not so young girls would go out and get pregnant. It was so that the reader could understand that women, in Chinese-Culture, were treated poorly if they did not fit the society's standards.

This chapter is an example of a talk story because the story is mainly passed around orally and is most likely being changed constantly. It is probably changing constantly in order to appeal to different aspects of society and the things that people should and should not do. However the story is changed though, the moral of it is always that young girls should not become pregnant and that it would be a great dishonor if they did.

How is this chapter an example of a story? What is the moral?
This chapter is an example of a story because it is one story inside another and that story inside another. What I mean is the main story that is being told throughout this whole huge story (novel) is about Kingston's aunt. Like I said in the last response, everyone is orally telling the story whether it is the truth or not. The moral of the story is that it is against their way of living throughout their organization of their society to become pregnant and disobey the way of the family. That the aunt being told throughout the story is that she should have not stepped outside of the "roundness" by becoming pregnant or what they believe is she was "raped".

This chapter is an example of a talk story because they are trying to show that family is very important (the moral) and with that they are telling her a story of what not to do like her aunt did , "of the break she had made in the roundness"- her aunt made a decision (or didnt make a decision) about having a child with another man and she broke the importance of the family and the perfectness of the society they believe they have.

A talk story is almost like a social event that turns into a storytelling-type situation. The mother told her this story to help her avoid the fate of her aunt. The moral is that you cannot hurt the roundness or perfectness of a family in society, and if you break the fluidity, you break the family and destruct your family name.

This chapter is an example of a talk story because Kingston's mother doesn't want her to do what her aunt did, that is why she is telling her these stories. The moral of the story is that family is very important and their culture revolves around honor. If you disrespect your family's honor or values, you will be looked down on and shamed. They do not want to harm the roundness of society.

The chapter is an example of a talk-story because her mother kept this story a secret from her daughter until she was mature enough and developing into a woman. She decided to tell her the story once she started her menstrual cycle, which shows that she is expected to not dishonor her family like her aunt did since she is able to become pregnant, now. The moral is to not repeat her aunt's sexual act (3).
