A single note is a major staple when it comes to music. Everything begins on a single note and continues with many more. On its own a musical note can create different effects. It can be dramatic or exciting when its a continuous rift throughout the piece. Even in movies when they show a character playing 1 note it can cause some tension.

Absolutely, there is nothing more necessary than a single note that we can build off of. It only takes one note to hook a listener to a song. It's that one note that allows the audience to get a vibe on the song and based off of that they can either stick with it or leave.

Ratliff Example

I used for Ratliff's Example, Spaced Cowboy. It's a definitely weird take on music. It begins off with several electronic beats and then busts into a man yodeling and mumbling words. Overall I can see where the main notes are taking the listener and leading the song in its direction. Like I said it's a weird song overall but one that follows its main notes. Its those same notes that brings the audience back to what the singer is saying. Unfortunately I cannot understand what this man is saying but I get the jist of what the song is doing.

For my example I chose Stevie Wonder's Superstition. Through this entire song Wonder keeps that same note rift that brings the audience back to the familiarity and keep the audience engaged. It is the main guitar rift that dominates the song and everything in the back builds up behind the rift. These single notes takes the cake and makes it a better song overall.
