The teacher moves around the room, facilitating discussions and guiding students rather than lecturing. There's a large interactive screen at the front displaying dynamic content that students can interact with. The students are engaged, animated, and clearly enjoying the learning process. The overall vibe is one of excitement and positivity, with everyone actively participating and contributing.

First, religious fragmentation. The colonies were diverse religiously and this led to formalism and a lack of unity. The great awakening helped to bring the people together because of the new more personal approach to religion.

Second, the rise of secular rationalism. The shift towards this concept led to a decrease in the influence of religion in the government and daily life. And again, the great awaking led to a more personal experience with spiritual experience.

Lastly, decline in religious fervor. By the early 18^th century, most colonists had shunned religion, and only went to church because it was required. The personal passion for God that defined the early colonists was gone, but the great awaking helped revive it.

In conclusion, the great awakening brought a more personal approach to God which was needed because of the religious fragmentation, rise of secular rationalism, and decline in religious fervor.

“What is it? And who are you?” I thought we established some sort of military order in the new recruits, but I guess not, if some random soldier is in my personal quarters. As Chief Officer and head of the secret service bureau, I get a private tent in any semi-permanent military camp. One that is, supposed to be, off limits to everyone except a few select people.  

“I’m John Smith, sir, I just arrived in the most recent draft, sir. I have urgent news for you, sir.” Smith stutters. Why is he here, instead of Richard? Richard is a courier, who brings news from our spies in the North, to me. He should have arrived an hour ago, now that I think about it. Smith opens his mouth, then shuts it again. He visibly swallows. I fight back an eye roll. 

“Out with it, Smith!” I bark “I thought it was urgent!” 

“Yes sir, it is sir,” But he’s cut off when another soldier barges into the tent. He is ragged and thin, his eyes wide with panic. This soldier however, I recognize.  

“Taylor?” I ask standing up and striding over to him. Taylor is a spy who should be in Gettysburg right now. Panic starts to rise in me. What is he doing here? Taylor, (unlike Smith) hurriedly explains, “The North is coming!”  

“What!?” I exclaim, the panic crawling farther up.   

“Everyone but me was discovered,” Taylor continues hurriedly, “and Richard was captured on his way here. Peterson talked and told them where you are currently stationed, and how you organize the whole espionage branch. General Lee sent out 3,000 soldiers as soon as he heard. They’re looking for you.”  Everyone was caught? How? I can’t believe the words I’m hearing. The panic now threatens to take hold of my brain, my vision blurring slightly. I allow it three seconds, then shove it all the way down.  

“When did you arrive, Taylor?”  

“Just a minute ago, sir” 

“How far ahead of the army are you?” I ask sending up a silent prayer. If he was on a horse, and left even a few minutes before them… 

“I had to stick to backroads, sir,” Taylor says with a wince, “It took me 12 days. So by most, we have an hour.” An hour? That’s not enough time, not even close. My mind is racing, thinking first about how we are going to pull this off, and then catching on thoughts of what the spies went through when they were caught, what they are currently experiencing, most likely in an inhuman prison camp. I shiver, then open my mouth to bark orders at Smith, who is still standing in the same spot, looking a bit pale. But I don’t get to, because a gunshot sounds outside. First one, then two, then hundreds. Shouts join the explosions, and the sound is deafening, filling my ears with a high-pitched ring. Then, smoke invades my senses, burning my eyes and nose. I cough, and my brain finally catches up. The North is here. The North is here, an hour early, catching our 1,500 soldiers off guard. I know what that means, no matter how much I hate it. “Taylor!” I shout. “You know protocol!” Taylor behind me, I sprint out of the front of the tent then turn left, heading towards the woods. Soon we reach where two horses are hidden, tied to a tree. We hop on, doing our best to calm them down.   

“Stay down, and don’t stop for anything!” I tell Taylor. I lean low over my horse, and flee into the night.
