La contaminación se produjo al realizarse la carga y descarga del combustible. La empresa informó que se trataba de un derrame de 7 galones de petróleo en las playas de Ventanilla. El daño fue mucho más grande alrededor de 6 mil barriles esparcidos en el litoral peruano desde Ventanilla hasta la bahía de Ancón. El derrame ha afectado Áreas Naturales Protegidas (ANPS), como la Reserva Nacional Sistema de Islas, Islotes y Puntas Guaneras, la Zona Reservada de Ancón y las Islas Grupo de Pescadores. Este suceso tuvo impactos en tres niveles. Primero, afectó directamente la flora y fauna ya que el petróleo les impide desplazarse y conseguir alimento y nutrientes, e incluso se pudo impregnar en ellos. El segundo impacto estuvo relacionado a la cadena alimenticia, puesto que cuando los recursos mueren o se dañan, las especies que los utilizan como alimento no los pueden consumir. Por último el daño alcanzó al sr humano porque afectó las actividades económicas dependientes de esto recursos como el turismo y la pesca.
