NICOLAS NIYONIZIGIYE. week 3

Presentation of the situation

Mr. Malaimé is hospitalized in long-term care in a CHSLD. He has survived Covid-19. He had caught it at the same time as Victoire, his wife, who died suddenly. During her lifetime, Madame Victoire came every day, alone, to the hospital to visit her husband. On several occasions, I had to meet her, and appreciate her attachment to her husband. And since her death, no one in the family comes to se Mr. MALAIMÉ in the CHSLD.

What am I going to do for the client?

I decided to support him in this time of grief that he is experiencing alone and without the support of his children. Indeed, Monsieur Malaimé remains alone in the shock of the loss of his beloved wife. And family relations would not have been very warm. Tainted family relationships or crushing memories? Only God knows. He won't even be able to attend his wife's funeral. " What do you want? My illness could not allow me to go out for my wife's funeral,” he confided to me with a tone of despair. Consequently, Ms. Victoire will no longer return to the Hospital to see a love left without a hug. Mr. MALAIMÉ will no longer see his wife in person except only in photos. And when I asked him how he sees and envisages life without her, he replies in a harsh tone: “She’s gone and that’s it. Your questions…your questions…”. Then he turned his head and looked to the side. From now on, Mr. MALAIMÉ remains locked in his room, pensive, sitting, depressed in front of the television. For a few more days, MALAIMÉ has continued to ask his children for Medical Assistance in Dying. One off his children then told me: “I don’t love my father. If I agree to come to see him or if I call him, it is out of duty and not out of love.” Considering, the doctor may not give a positive outcome to the request of Mr. MALAIMÉ and his family. I wonder what would be the fate of the dad who no longer receives visits after the death of his wife

What are 3 questions this client asks you about their situation?

1. Can you help me in my process of requesting medical assistance in dying? (Father)

2. Can you help our father in his process of requesting medical assistance in dying? (Children)

3. We are worried that our family's story is coming to an end. Can you help us in the process of reconciliation with our father before his death?

When the community organizations received our goodies, they contacted me to know more to this campaign and advised me to use another option (meet and greet) to reach a lot of people.
