My piece is space-themed with a touch of star wars. The piece is made with watercolour. There is an astronaut in space alone and in the background there are planets and in the center, there is the death star. I start my art by drawing a pencil circle with a stencil. Then I drew the astronaut and then I started painting the planets with watercolour then I painted the astronaut and then I painted the background black with a sprinkle of salt to make the effect of stars. The theme of my piece is abandonment. I show this by putting the astronaut all alone in space with no one around. My goal for my piece was to make an interesting piece that was fun to look at and had character. I really like my art, I think my art is pretty cool.

Acrylic paint and tissue paper on a canvas
My artwork is a part of me, it is 5 air balloons, one is very colourful and large all the others are black and the same size, this project is very meaningful to me because I never fit in and this project represents that. I am very different then all other people. My work is called “I am Free”, I choose this because when I think of this project I think of being free. I used watercolour for the background because I thought I would be able to blend it better, it worked, I chose black ink for the baskets because it becomes darker then paint, I also used tissue paper for the balloons because it made them stand out. I got my inspiration from my mom, she always told me I was different, and stood out. I tried to show that everyone is free and different. My goal as an artist is to become someone that can sit down and have ideas of something amazing. This piece of art helped me achieve this goal because I have some other ideas from this project. I learned that planning this project helped a lot because I could get all my ideas onto paper and not miss anything. The final piece is exactly what I planed for it to be. I loved working on this project.

Digital Illustration
My artwork is centred around a D’onofrio (Ice-cream brand) worker, sitting on his tricycle, that contains my favourite ice-creams, which are pictured in the background. The D’onofrio slogan is curved around the back wheel of the tricycle, and the logo is curved along the front of the cart. I decided to use D’onofrio Ice-cream as the theme for my piece because it was something that I would see on a daily basis during my childhood. The ice-cream tricycles would always wait outside of my school, and on special days once school was over, I would be allowed to get some ice-cream with friends. I tried to keep the emotion of my artwork bright and cheerful to portray the happiness that everybody felt when they saw the D’onofrio tricycles. I enjoyed trying out a new medium when creating my piece, and hope to use it more in the future.

This piece is two cartoon people in a Pocari Sweat bottle, subject matter being social distancing. Black lining was done by a chalk pen with a white border effect, turnip pen for small white highlights and white lining, flat oil brush for shapes and color, and a basic oil paintbrush for the rest. The technique used for making the clear highlights was painting down where they would be in white then lowering the opacity of the layer. Brush stabilization was at around 80 when doing straight lines or large curves. The process is quite simple: roughly paint in the basic shapes, start to go in with some more colour, add lining, details, shadows/highlights/.The goal for the creation of this piece was to help me better understand the fundamentals of digital art, and hopefully make me more interested in it.

To represent social distancing I made an alternate version of “The Old Guitarist” by Pablo Picasso. The Old Guitarist was painted in 1903, just after the suicide of Picasso's close friend, Casagemas. The blue colours in this painting represent sadness and depression. The Old Guitarist is a suitable piece to modify based on the current social climate as the mood of the unmodified Old Guitarist is sad and represents loss and death.

My work is called the Traveler because it depicts an astronaut being trapped in space and could never find his way back to earth. I created my artwork using various techniques. For example, I used pencil drawing to draw the astronaut and then I used watercolor to color in the background. In addition, I tried using salt to make white dots in the sky to create a star effect. My drawing shows a sense of isolation because space is an abyss; there are no sounds, not air, and most importantly, no life. Being isolated in space means that you are literally being isolated from all forms of life. My overall thought for my piece of art is amazing. I never thought I could draw an astronaut in such detail and create such an abstract work of art. This piece of art influenced me to create more art like this because I think pencil and watercolor really stands out.

My artwork is of a moon in the galaxy with a rocketship passing by this is meant to show my theme which is alienation. I used different techniques and tools, like for the moon I used a palette knife to show the craters. I also used a white gel pen to write the quote which stood out to me the most, with different writing styles. For the background, I sponge painted the galaxy and for the rocketship, I printed an image. I tried to show the emotion of feeling alienated and alone. The word alienation to me means feeling like your detached, don’t belong and like an alien which is being different. This shows a social issue because alienation can also be like a social outcast. I reached my goals for this project and added some new ideas along the way. I planned it out in my sketchbook and I was super happy this turned out exactly liked a planned it to be! This project was like what I imagined and it was really fun to do. This will influence me to try new techniques and work with new skills and materials out of my comfort zone and to try new stuff out! Overall, I am really happy with this project as well as I learned some new things about me as an artist.

My social distancing visual journal is titled 6 ft. feels like a world. It features two planets on opposite sides of the image with two people on top of them facing outwards. They are connected by a dotted red line and on the bottom in the center is the title. I created my image using Adobe photoshop. I started with a blank workbook and added blue to the background. I found black and white 2d globes and coloured them blue and green. Next I removed the backgrounds from the people and added them on top of the globes. I created the dotted line above them and the text at the bottom. I coloured, edited, and added a drop shadow. I created this because the first day i saw my friends and we all had to stand in a circle 6 feet apart, it felt so weird. It felt like we weren't even together. 6 feet felt like a world. I am very proud of this image. Although it may seem simple, I put time and thought into it and that makes me proud.

My artwork is based on my life in Brazil. The broken flag represents both my broken relationships and the unsafe country, which is the main reason as to why we left. The bright sun and the house, that is also broken signifies my family which I left behind and the sun brings back memories of playing outside. The middle piece is the most important to me as it reminds me of my family. I rarely see my family and many times feel distant emotionally as I barely talk to them. My family has members that are rather old and as we only visit once a year it scares us to think they could pass and we wouldn't be there. The last piece is based on two cartoon characters that were mentioned in a song that my mom used to sing to me , it’s a song that I love as it reminds me of my old home. The song is called "fico assim sem você" which roughly translates to "this is how I feel/am without you". For the background I used watercolours that are like a sunset because it would bring out the colour in the rest of the painting. The rest of the paintings are in acrylic paint to make them stand out. The whole painting has cracks throughout it to unite the piece in an ironic way, by separating and breaking all of the art. This was the last photo I took of it before completion, the finished painting does not have a photo as it is in my art class.
