These are the process of solving by completing the square, If you don't understand how to solve this I would recommend you look at the video in Khan Academy, "Example 3: Completing the Square".

Here's the steps to solve this type of equation. Let's say we have 4x^2 + 40X - 300 = 0. The first thing, is to divide the coefficient 4 by all of the numbers. Everything you do on the left has you have to do it in the right. Then You have to last coefficient to the other side, we have to add it, in this case we can write the equation like x^2 + 10x - ____ = 75. Then you have find the last coefficient in this case (10/2)^2 then it will equal 25. x^2 + 10x - 25 = 75. Then you have to find the perfect square all of the numbers, in this case it would be five so we can re-write the equation (x + 5)^2 = 75 + 25. Now, To solve this we have to find for x, If we add 75 + 25 we can find it's 100. Meaning the square root of 100 is +- 10. This means there's two types of answer, It can be positive 5 or negative -15.
