The Navajo tribe discovered skinwalkers. They believed that these Skinwalkers were shape-shifters who could get into the form of any animal which allowed them to travel and gave them the ability to hide in plain sight.

The Navajo nation is most of Colorado, and parts of California, Arizona, and New Mexico.

This witch is called “yee naaldlooshii” by the Navajo, which translates to “with it, he goes on all fours.” Skinwalkers are considered the most volatile and dangerous by the Navajo.

Skinwalkers evolved respected healers or spiritual guides who later chose to use their powers for evil. Skinwalkers can either be male or female, however, they are more often male. Skinwalkers can walk freely among the tribe, as humans, during the day and secretly transform at night. Skinwalker Ranch, also known as Sherman Ranch, is a property of 512 acres located in Utah. This ranch has a reputation of being a site of paranormal activities. Its name is taken from the skin-walker of Navajo legend concerning vengeful shamans. Skinwalkers are mainly found in the “Four Corners” region. This is in the Southwest of the United States, the states include Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico.

A woman named, Michelle Fitzpatrick claimed to see a skinwalker on June 5th (Unknnown year). She says, "I caught something out of the corner of my eye and was instantly alert, thinking it was a wolf or a big cat or something. It was big thing. I snapped my head to look at it, and my brain could not process what I was seeing. It was flat backed and on all fours. It's head stuck straight up. It was pale white, hairless and sinuey. It moved like a giant, slow motion spider. It looked like a mishmash of human, alien and animal."

Skinwalkers can take possession of the bodies of their human victims if a person locks eyes with them. After they take control, the skinwalker can make its victims do and say things; they basically have total control over their victims.

Once Skinwalkers shape-shift, others can tell they are not real animals because their eyes are very different from real animals. Their eyes are very human, and when lights shine on them, they turn bright red. Their eyes look more like animals when they are in human form.

In movies liked "Skin Walkers" skinwalkers are portrayed more human like where they have the body of a human but the face of a skinwalker. In reality skinwalkers morph into the shape of an animal so they are disguised in the night.

In comparison to the 2002 movie "Skin Walkers" the movie "Antlers" is another skinwalker movie made almost 20 years after. This movie shows a more accurate portrayal of skinwalkers. This movie is based in the woods and the skinwalker is in the form of a deer. This shows the evolution between the two films because the look of skinwalkers became more accurate.

In the Northeast, Pukwudgies are found. These are small, humanoid creatures that are apart of the Wampanoag folklore. Like skinwalkers they can also shapeshift, sometimes into animals, however they often appear in their original form.
