My favorite in-class activity was the Investigative Cookies lab with Physical Science! We baked two sets of cookies and changed on ingredient to practice the scientific method. We also noted physical and chemical changes. Fun and delicious!

It is one of my favorite activities in Life Science to work alongside the students to develop a structural model of DNA using twizzlers and gummy bears.

Shot Put!

Teaching the kids how Track and Field works and coaching them on the correct way to throw a Shot Put! Kids were inside, outside, and at parks in their respective cities throwing a Shot Put (i.e. rolled up sock, tennis ball, etc.)!

Snoring in Shakespeare

While reading a scene aloud from A Midsummer Night's Dream with the 7th graders, everyone collapsed into hysterics when the students playing Titania and Nick Bottom (as donkey) snored loudly in a strange, sleepy chorus while the student playing Oberon read his lines.

St. Jude Math-a-Thon

One thing I know is that my middle schoolers love "Would You Rather", so much that they are now creating their own.

Playing games centered around "not breaking character" is always so much fun. One day, we used the line "Give me back my son" from Ransom, with students taking turns addressing their classmates and dramatically shouting, "GIVE ME BACK MY SON!" without laughing or smiling.

Story Building

In my 7th grade English class, we recently started our class by working on a short story together in which each student took a turn writing one sentence at a turn. We never knew where that student was going to take it. The story ended up being a Home-Alone Grinch situation with them booby-trapping the Grinch in various hilarious ways.
