Nearly 200 countries are meeting in Belém, Brazil for COP30, but the U.S. will not send high-level officials, marking a major shift in global climate diplomacy. The Trump administration has reversed many climate policies, withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, rolling back rules on greenhouse gas emissions, reducing support for renewable energy, cutting research funding and weakening federal disaster resilience programs. These actions reduce U.S. climate ambition, risk slowing global progress, and contribute to higher future warming. The changes also reduce climate science, renewable investment, and community preparedness for worsening climate impacts.
