The father goes on a route that no one else travels on, and the boy is inspired by his father.  The narrative "Powder" touches on a wide range of issues. The themes of familial love and obedience vs rebellion are both prominent in this tale. In this tale, the father's love for his kid is demonstrated via his efforts to win back his family by bringing him on a ski trip.  His father battled to be allowed to see his kid sometimes. Although the parents were on rocky terms which makes it difficult to keep a strong connection, the father did not stop showing up for his son.

Another theme could be that life can be unpredictable like the weather. We never really know what the weather is going to be like and we will never really know what is going to happen in our lives.
