Music of the Night was written in 1986 for the musical The Phantom of the Opera. In the musical, it was written after the Phantom lures Christine down to his lair under the Opera house. He talks about his unspoken love for her, and uses this song to keep her in a trance.
This music was originally written for the play Aspects of Love, but it was adapted to fit Phantom of the Opera by changing the lyrics of the song. The origninal version was first played at Andrew Lloyd Webber's theaters Sydmonton. As music of the night was practiced more on more, the lyrics of the song changed.
He was accused of plagerism, but later was unaccused.

The main character of this play has two loves: music and a girl. "Music of the Night" is written for both of the things that he loves.

The lyrics "Let your mind start a journey to a strange new world, Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before," describe the author's thoughts towards music. Music can take you into a new world, and this piece exemplifies the kind of dark and mystical piece that makes you feel the emotions that the author intended.
