People can rise from the bottom to the top but it is extremely hard to get there. It takes a very big effort to move up in society. There are lots of people that fall behind and people find faults within that group rather than the social system. This is bad because instead of blaming the social system for putting roadblocks in their path, we blame the low class citizens.

Americans expect a high level of material culture. This comfort includes not only nutrition, medical care, and housing, but also late-model cars and recreational playthings- form boats to computer games. I agree with this as an American core value although it is negative. Our need for materials is greater then the top 10 importing toy countries combined. In excess materialism can take a toll on well being, relationships and quality of life.

Activity and Working

Sustaining a stable job and engaging in an activity is a lot to handle for an individual person. According to data taken at the end of 2016 saying nearly all young adults (97 percent) have held a job between leaving high school and age 22. Fifty-seven percent of children between 6 and 17 years old participate in at least one after-school extracurricular activity, according to a new report released today from the U.S. Census Bureau. Holding a job and being expected to be involved in an activity is a challenge for Americans. It is an American value for people to be constantly involved in physical activity, but is very hard to sustain. This is positive, since the factor of how easy it is for someone to start working out in a gym or in a park near them. By having activity's near by makes working and partaking in activities very possible for the average American.

Although it sharply contradicts freedom, democracy, and equality, Americans value some groups more than others and have done so throughout their history. The institution of slavery in earlier U.S. history is the most notorious example. I agree with this as an American core value although it is negative. Group superiority of whites over blacks during slavery shows how one group had power over the other and was racist.

Americans are expected to go as far in school as their abilities and finances allow. Over the years, the definition of an "adequate" education has changed sharply; and today the expectation of a college education is help as an appropriate goal for most Americans. I do not agree with this as an American core value and it is positive. In a New York Times article from 2014 it says the opposite. 74% of high school graduates were in the labor force, employed or looking for work. While high school graduates going to college has changed, there is little doubt that graduates going to college has reversed if not halted.

Promises- Our value

An American core value should be the opportunities that this country provides and the promises it makes to it's people. We expect our government to uphold our rights and keep our opportunities. We expect to be treated fairly and people to keep their promises. Today, the government doesn't keep it's promises regarding many different issues including equality. The government promises freedom yet people that are "different" are not treated fairly. With freedom comes justice and equality and the government kept the promise for people that are considered "better". For the other groups, the government did not keep its promise because they don't receive the same treatment or equality.

Americans can't understand others without being aware of the role that the value of equality plays in their lives. Recently, more people are beginning to receive the same treatment as others due to the changing perspectives of people in society. Now that people are starting to value equality more, people that weren't always seen as equals, are today.

Science and technology are expanding by each day. People are coming together to create new ideas and inventions to better our society. Technology started off as telephones connected to the wall and radios. But now has advanced to cell phones and the idea of robots coming to life. Science is constantly changing for the better. Science has been able to create new medicine to help all different kinds of diseases, which enables people to live longer and happier lives. Due to the advancement in technology our lives are becoming easier and allowing the next generations to continue to grow.
