Then, when the drought happened in 1977, the number of portulaca seeds decreased to about 3 per m2, then, in 1978, it was 1 per m2, and in 1979, there were no seeds left. However, the Tribulus seeds were 4 per m2 in 1979.

The only problem was that the seed was too big to be eaten by a small beaked bird. That's why the big beaked birds thrived. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough because the small beaked bird population died down. The others are prone to predators, starvation, ect when not adapted.
