I think that music with female vocalists or musicians adds a layer to the music, because of the oppression and sexualization of women that occurs. For women to front a band, it's extremely empowering to experience and witness. My favorite band, Warpaint, is an all-girl band, which is a large reason why I enjoy them so much. Their lyrics and energy scream both feminine and masculine energy, and seeing them on stage in concert is so empowering and inspirational. I was previously in my own band, which was a three-piece all-girl band, and we drew a ton of inspiration from Warpaint, as well as other femme artists and bands. I am a huge feminist, so anything that empowers women of feminine people, I am all for. I have recently started listening to hip-hop, and I have to carefully choose what I listen to, making sure that it isn't demeaning towards women. Needless to say, there isn't too much out there. It has become popular and easy to sexualize and demean women in songs, so much so that many songs are centered around sexualizing women. Women are already objectified in the real world, so bringing that into the music world is extremely harmful for everyone. It teaches people that it is okay and normal to sexualize women and femmes, and it teaches women and femmes that they are merely objects. When men and people of masculine presentation are constantly exposed to this, it encourages toxic masculinity, which leads to the oppression and mistreatment of women. The song talks about a girl who is powerful and strong. The video shows the four members of the band being themselves and dancing/singing to their song. There is no objectification or sexualization. The video is not demeaning. It is empowering and shows four women jamming out to their own song. I love this video because of how simple yet effective it is. The lyrics are extremely pushy and sexual, and not in the most consensual way. You can tell the video was directed by a man. The women are being treated as objects for the men.
