         <description><![CDATA[<div>Providing pathways:</div><ol><li>Process - The writing process is not linear.  We want kids to know that they can always go back and regenerate an idea or rehearse a new idea.  Also, the reality is that many writers don’t wait until the end to revise and edit.  Many writers do this along the way, perhaps paragraph at a time.  Some people like to instead get it all down on the paper and then revise.  Either way is fine.  Once we recognize our “way”, then we can decide which process is best for you.  For some reluctant writers, editing at the very end can be too overwhelming.</li><li>Learning Progressions - Recognizing that kids are moving along a continuum can open doors for them to help them not be so reluctant.  This can take place in the mentor text that you are using.  You can show them sample writing that can be their next step.  </li><li>Choice - in topic and in paper</li><li>Environment - how does our environment support independence?  Writing centers that house all of the tools and charts that writers will need (post its for revising, scissors, charts, paper choice, different writing utensils, mentor texts that are marked up)</li></ol>]]></description>
