As classmates or colleagues we communicate better by talking face to face, getting to know each other and by helping one another out on the land fishing or spending the day at the cabin with daycare children. This gives us time to get to know one another throughout the whole day, can be just by watching and giving a hand when needed. Share things we like and don’t like! Lots of laughter as well, with jokes and or playing games.

Megan

I haven’t taken any IQ experience with my classmates.

But we learned about the IQ principles before but what I can say is what I’ve learned and what I know.

taking part in shared IQ experiences helps classmates communicate better by teaching respect, teamwork, and careful listening. IQ values encourage students to treat each other kindly and value everyone’s ideas. When classmates work together and listen patiently, they understand each other more clearly. These shared experiences build trust and make everyone feel safe to speak. As a result, communication becomes more positive, respectful, and cooperative in the classroom.

Ada

Taking part in a shared IQ (Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit) experience helps classmates communicate better because it builds connection, respect, and understanding through learning together. When students share hands-on experiences, they talk more openly, listen to each other, and work as a team. It creates trust and helps everyone feel comfortable sharing their ideas.

For example, when I was growing up, I would travel in the summer and winter with my adoptive parents. They would take me to a place called Ellis River, where they taught me how to set up a tent and how to properly cut up caribou and fish. During those times, I had to listen carefully, ask questions, and follow instructions. I also learned the importance of patience, teamwork, and respect for the land and animals.

Experiences like that are similar to shared IQ learning because they are based on teaching through doing. When classmates take part in activities together—such as land-based learning, preparing food, or setting up camp—they must communicate clearly and support one another. This helps everyone understand different strengths and builds stronger relationships.

Overall, shared IQ experiences improve communication because they encourage cooperation, active listening, respect, and learning from one another through real-life experiences.
