This women's son died in 1996. She was accused of being a witch by her brother-in-law. She was later cleared of her charge by a witch doctor in the Hindu holy city.

In an Indian community many women were killed because they were said to be using witchcraft. A bunch of people in the village had been getting sick and they were looking for someone to blame, for the unknown cause of the sicknesses.

This uncertainty leads the townspeople to believing in witchcraft, and in doing so abandon common sense, and begin persecuting all those accused without trial.
 There are modern day witch hunts going on in Northeast India. More than 2,000 people accused of being witches and have been killed. Nearly all of the victims are women. This shows that women are discriminated against in India..
 There are many similarities between the to witch hunts. In both cases the majority of those accused are women. They’re are killed without trial, and people are killed solely for being accused of being a witch. In both scenarios accusations are linked to land disputes.
