Jungian analysis is a method of psychotherapy developed by C.G. Jung. A Jungian analysis looks at the psychology of the unconscious mind, focusing on the ideas of the repression and multiple sides of personality. It emphasizes the how important the individual psyche is and each person's personal quest to find meaning and wholeness.Jung looked at different archetypes that people can be looked at through, and these archetypes are natural forces that play a vital role in human life.

    Where shall we go?

VLADIMIR:

    Not far.

ESTRAGON:

Oh yes, let's go far away from here.

VLADIMIR:

    We can't.

ESTRAGON:

    Why not?

VLADIMIR:

ESTRAGON:

    What for?

VLADIMIR:

    To wait for Godot.

Here we see the Jungian idea of the Shadow, the repressed part of the conscious self. We can assume that Vladimir and Estragon are two sides of one consciousness that we all have. Vladimir is the side that grounds itself in reality and is loyal to the responsibilities of the physical world and Estragon is the side that wants to escape and live in pleasure (the Shadow).

              Look at the tree.

          VLADIMIR:

              Estragon looks at the tree.

          ESTRAGON:

          VLADIMIR:

          ESTRAGON:

              You dreamt it.

In this scenario Vladimir points out how the tree changes from the previous day. He points this out because he thinks that with the production of a few leaves, along with the dream, the chances of Godot coming increases in their minds. Also, they cling to the tree metaphorically as keeping them from thinking they are there doing the same exact thing two days in a row with no difference in the outcome, but instead, thrive on the change produced by the tree.

Using a Jungian lens we can arrive at the same conclusion as to what the true meaning of 'Godot' is. Life is still pointless, but it is still our duty to live it and live it responsibly. These are the two conflicting halves of life. We must all have seemingly pointless tasks that we must complete, and we have to do them to better ourselves and find meaning in life. We must be aware of our mind and our ego and be open to the world.
