Denis & Francis had to go through a dangerous country that was officially seen as a war zone. Being cut of to the rest of the world, they weren't receiving much from the outside world. They had bad food, horrible living conditions and were receiving threats from some of the residents

China: Mongolia

Marco polo talked a lot about Mongolia in his book and talked about Mongolia being a wonderful place and talked about how how they have circular houses
Denis and Francis when Denis and Francis went to Mongolia, they saw the same things as Marco Polo they felt as they were back in the 13th century

Balkh

Some of Marco Polo's Crew were captured and killed. Denis and Francis were put against the wall were examined  to see if they were a threat

Wakhan Corridor

Marco Polo had a 12 day Journey. He saw horns that would guide him to his destination. Denis and Francis were cold with no shelter. They both traveled using road marks to guide them to their destination.

China: Kashgar and the Taklamakan Desert

Marco Polo claimed to have heard spirits late at night. Kashgar was a place that thrived of trade and industry. Francis shaved his head. Both claimed that it was cold. This place was known as "The land of the voyagers".

Hong Kong/Sumatra

Marco Polo was stranded here for 5 months. Denis and Francis couldn't find a boat to sail so they snuck onto a cargo ship to get to Hong Kong. They both traveled by Ship.

Don't let anything get in your way of achieving your dreams. Denis and Francis took lots of risks to be able to achieve their goal of traveling Marco Polo's Route.
