The first scene is when Kim Jiyoung puts her younger brother’s fountain pen into the cup filled with water. This did not seem to be a simple prank, it looked like an unconscious way of releasing the stress and frustration she has been holding inside for a long time. Growing up in a family where males are treated better than girls Kim Jiyoung saw her father giving more special treatment to her younger brother. Because she could not express her feelings openly, she kept them to herself until they surfaced through this small but meaningful action, revealing her deep sense of unfairness and resentment. What makes this moment powerful was that Kim Jiyoung expressed her emotions without her even realizing which shows how much she has been suppressing them.

The other scene is when Kim Jiyoung is at her husband’s family home and working in the kitchen while her husband tries to help with the dishes. However, she hesitates because she notices mother-in-law disapproving look. Mother-in-law was annoyed at seeing her son doing housework, and Ji-young, instead of accepting her husband’s help, becomes more concerned about his mother’s reaction. This moment shows how deeply she has been affected by the traditional gender roles in Korea and how much pressure she has felt to follow them. It made me think about how exhausting it must have been for her to always be careful and watch others' reactions. I also imagined how I would feel if my mother had been in the same situation. Even if it was my grandmother, I would feel angry knowing that my mother was treated unfairly. This scene highlights how strong social traditions can be and how many people, even today, accept them without question. It made me realize that unfair treatment should not be ignored, even within a family.

The scene where the mother-in-law gives an apron as a gift

This scene is particularly striking because it highlights that not only men but also women contribute to reinforcing traditional gender role stereotypes. The mother-in-law herself must have lived a similar life in the past. As a result, she perceives this as natural and expects the same from Kim Ji-young. This underscores how deeply rooted gender stereotypes are in society as a whole.

The scene where Kim Ji-young speaks like her mother in front of her husband's family

This scene captures the moment when Kim Ji-young unconsciously channels her mother’s voice to express her true feelings to her husband’s family. The emotions and sacrifices she had long suppressed erupt all at once, powerfully revealing just how exhausted she truly was.

When Kim Ji-young was sexual harassment as a child. In this scene, Kim Ji-young was sexual harassment on a bus by a guy. Her dad came to pick her but her dad was telling her to wear longer skirt and scold her instead of comforting her. This scene highlights the unfair reality that many women have to face from young age. It also influence Kim Ji-young life after.

This scene resonated with me even more. It directly yet subtly portrays one of the most pressing issues in Korea today—sexual harassment—effectively conveying the seriousness of the problem. Additionally, the father's words are things that girls in real life might have heard, making it easier to immerse myself in the scene and focus on it.

When Kim Ji-young says 'I'm happy' to his husband. In this scene, Kim Ji-young was saying 'I'm happy' but without having any emotional feelings. This scene highlights that women have to suppress their feelings and endure whenever they have a hard time. It leads Kim Ji-young to reflect her life so it was resonates most with me. This scene effectively portrays a typical Korean family and strongly conveys the idea that women should not express their emotions and must endure them. This made it even easier for me to immerse myself in the scene. It is the scene that best reflects the education and lifestyle Kim Ji-young has experienced, allowing the audience to understand how she has lived with just a single phrase. This moment was particularly impactful because it showed how much meaning a single word can carry.

The first is when Ji-young’s mother becomes furious at her husband for bringing herbal medicine only for their son and not for Ji-young. This scene stood out to me because it highlights the deeply ingrained gender inequality within families. It was heartbreaking to see how Ji-young’s father didn’t even recognize the unfairness of his actions until later, when he finally brought medicine for Ji-young as well. This moment made me reflect on how traditional gender roles can unconsciously influence even the smallest aspects of everyday life.

The second scene that moved me is when Ji-young appears to be channeling the spirit of her late grandmother and comforts her mother. This scene was particularly emotional because it revealed the unspoken pain and struggles that women in the family have carried for generations. Ji-young, who has always been expected to remain quiet and obedient, temporarily becomes a voice of love and support for her mother. It was a powerful reminder of the bonds between women and the sacrifices that often go unrecognized.

Both scenes left a lasting impression on me, prompting me to reflect more deeply on gender roles and the emotional burdens that are passed down through generations.

The scene resonated with me as it was impactful that the mother is standing up for her daughter.

Another scene that moved me is when Ji-young gets a gift from her mother-in-law, cooking gear, which is further supporting the historical gender roles and underlines that the problem not only lies by the male part of the society.

She realises how she is responsible for it and break down into tears. This is a very touching scene as it reflects moments in multiple women's lifes.

2) Another scene which personally moved me is when Kim jiyoung declines her new job offer due to her responsibility of talking care and raising her child. This again reflects struggles which multiple women face throughout their lives.

The scene where she shows her mother, who is suffering from post-natal depression, as if she were possessed by her grandmother, is impressive. The mother's grief and sadness as she realizes belatedly that her daughter has been driven to an extreme corner by parenting stands out.

I remember the scene at the beginning of the movie where she goes down to her husband's parents' house to prepare holiday food.In the movie, the main character, Kim Ji-young, worked hard throughout the holiday season, continuously preparing various dishes, while the other adults and her husband sat in the living room and enjoyed the holidays. This kind of production seems to show the polarization between the genders during the holidays by creating a wall in the middle.

1. There is a scene where the male employees in the protagonist's company casually share obscene photos of their female colleagues. Their reaction to this behavior includes lines like, “I envy you. I mean, I envy that you even have time for this. When I go home, I have to take care of my kids and look after my wife.” To be clear, I am not saying that I liked or found this scene impressive—it was utterly disgusting. The film deliberately portrays sexual harassment as something committed solely by men and attributes all wrongdoing and negative consequences to male characters. Because of this, the film may resonate emotionally with female audiences, but for men, it is nothing short of unpleasant.

2. Before discussing the second scene, I want to clarify that I do not hate or dislike this director. On the contrary, I believe they are a brilliant filmmaker who knows how to evoke human emotions masterfully. However, the intentional inclusion of misandrist expressions and feminist elements in this film goes beyond discomfort—it is outright offensive. That being said, whether I like it or not, this film is not a fantasy. The message the director conveys is undeniably powerful in making modern audiences reflect on the reality of our world. Perhaps that is why I find both this world and this film so repulsive.

The second scene that stood out to me was when the protagonist was nearly sexually assaulted during her school years. The reason this scene stayed with me is that it effectively portrayed the horror and discomfort of such an experience. However, it also carried an undertone of misandry and was likely meant to evoke empathy from female viewers. But how does this film feel to men who have never committed sexual assault? I cannot speak for others, but for me, it was deeply unsettling. Women also commit sexual assault, and there are many documented cases of female stalkers. However, the undeniable truth is that men are responsible for a significantly higher percentage of such crimes. And that reality is what makes me even more uncomfortable.

The scene from the movie, Kim Ji-young's past recollection, was most impressive when Kim Ji-young's mother told Kim Ji-young that she gave up her dream of becoming a teacher to support her brother and raise her children. The reason I chose this scene was that it reminded me of the hardships of my parents and previous generations. This is because I saw women in the old days who gave up their dreams due to social customs and social backgrounds even if they had their own dreams. It was a scene that directly expressed that many women gave up their dreams in the past to raise their families, so it was related to and sympathized with our family.
