WIN, short for "What I Need" is a 30 minute period added to the daily bell schedule at our middle school every Tuesday and Thursday. Our homeroom lasts from 7:45 until 8:15, and is an opportunity for students to get breakfast as everyone arrives. WIN is from 8:15-8:45 on these two days.

WIN is a time for students to participate in clubs, receive rememdiation or resource, or to use as a study hall. Each teacher is required to sponsor at least one club, and the club only meets one of the two days. Some of the clubs include Yearbook, SCA, STEM, TSA, Builder's Club, Creative Writing, Mind Up, Drama Club, National Junior Honor Society, Art Club, H2O for Life, and Model United Nations.

Resource is a time for students that have IEP or 504 plans that require extra one-on-one or small group supprt to meet with their SpEd teachers. Remediation is a time for specific students to meet with their teachers for extra help in a certain subject, on a particular assignment, or for a specific skill.

This initiative encourages teachers to build relationships with students through their clubs, and gives students an opportunity to receive multiple forms of help and support depending on their needs. It also gives students to interact with peers or teachers they may not see on a regular basis.

This is primarily as a (#3) sense of social-emotional security. Students are able to select clubs based on their interests, and many of them choose clubs as a safe place to express themselves or participate in an activity they enjoy. Teachers are forming relationships with their students, and they are also building peer relationships.

Depending on the club or activity, this dimension is covered both by (#4) a support for learning and (#5) social and civic learning. Some of the clubs are used as a learning resource for students that need extra help or support. It is a place for students to ask questions and explore ideas further than they may be able to in class. Other clubs focus on community involvement within the school and outside of the school, and this often addresses civic learning, personal responsibility, and ethical decision-making.

This is primarily focused on (#8) social support for students. Some of the clubs do focus on diversity, respect, and equity, but I don't see that as a focal point for all the clubs. However, all of the clubs and activities allow for social support. They are provided time to interact with peers and socialize. For many students, they are interacting with students outside of their normal classes and are establishing new friendships and bonds.

This has a big focus on (#9) school connectedness and engagment and (#11) social inclusion. The clubs and activities encourage students to be part of a school-based activity. Because the time is built into the schedule, students are not required to stay after school or prioritize activities. The clubs are built-in and allow for optimal participation. The clubs also stress social inclusion because every student in the school is participating in a club. These clubs help them form problem-solving skills, leadership skills, and socialization.

These surveys could measure:
- Enjoyment
- Engagement
- Strengths
- Weaknesses

The problem with surveys (especially for students) is that there are always outliers who answer questions either rushing or dishonestly, but for the most part surveys are the most accurate way to gather feedback about a program or an initiative.

Surveys also allow for anonymity and quick/measurable data. We use Google Forms for our surveys, and answers transfer immediately into usable and easy-to-report data.

Once data and responses have been received, data talks allow administrators and leadership teams to analyze and discuss effectiveness. At this point, strengths and weaknesses can be discussed and monitored until data is retrieved again. Data talks are important because they aren't only used for the traditional "testing" data (the data talks we normally use for student testing results). Data talks can also be used in this case to review the effectivess of a club or remediation, and discuss how the activity can be improved or sustained.
