He escaped from the concentration camp. He is so full on in believing in a god. His dad doesn't want him to because guys are the ones back them that are the ones working in a household. The ones that are going to bring home money and food. All of them were forced to dig a hole and once they were done they were shot and the babies were thrown in arand shot with guns. When he was free he went back to synagogue to warn people but no one was convinced by him. It was around 1942 when this happened. Hitler is getting stronger and killing more and more people. The German troops are going on killing sprees with the governments approval. They ignored everything he was saying because they didn't consider it and didn't think that they would've gotten as fast as they did. They did not want it to happen so they were making themselves have faith an/or hope. Every Jew had to wear a yellow star. His father was an upper class police man. They weren't allowed to go to any type of restaurant, travel, go to the synagogue, or be on the streets after afternoon hit. There were two people known as the ghetto. He let relatives stay in their house that ran away from there home. They felt that this wasn't a bad thing. Jewish doctors and nurses were going there for the Jews. The ghetto people were ruled by the government and more and more kept showing up. One of his dads friends were telling everyone to get up because they were about to invade to get the Jews. The people that worked for Hitler was there ordering Jews to go outside. Everyone was afraid of what would've happened next. everyone packed things but they all had to leave it behind. They did have time so they had to leave everything they packed behind. They got put in the ghettos. Wasn't allowed out past 6, had to give up everything, had to start wearing a star. To me, this is symbolic of how steadfast the Jewish people were their faith. Often people ask why didn't they just lie about who they were, but there is danger in trying to be someone that you are not-- whether that is lying about your religion or whether just ignoring your true identity in whatever form. He's mad at his god because of everything that has happened. Everyone still prays to the god even though everything was happening again. He felt alone because he felt like god wasn't there like he was before. He was going to find his father to happy new year but he had stop trust/believing. The people switched bunks with his father and him. The people gave them separate bunks when they said they wouldn't. He is loosing his faith and hope in everything because he felt like god wasn't there. It's 1944 now. They all had to get naked to get moved to go get checked out to get burned, but he passed because he ran fast even though he was really skinny. He also didn't care about everyone else behind him because he only wanted to pass. His dad passed too. The bell that happens his reminder that someone else is in control of him, but he knows that he's free. The only change was that the rations gotten smaller. they get black coffee and a ration of bread everyday. Blockalteste turned to go to his room, they started to cling to his clothes because they all knew that they were going to get sacrificed. His dad was running because they wrote his number down without him noticing. He was scared and his dad was the one giving him hope because they are doing a second one about a determined one. He felt that time was running out. They burned a baby and children alive with no hesitation. He needs his dad. He's accommodating because he kept his mouth closed and listened. They all were in Auschwitz for 8 days so far. His father didn't identify people already, Stein. He recognized him but not his father, he lied about him seeing his wife and children. His father said rashon food but he couldn't. They were in Auschwitz for 3 weeks now and all they did was rest a lot. They wanted to stay there as long as they can, but it's hard. They had to evade transportation buses. The good days were over.
An old friend would visit everyday with a half portion of bread. The guy left to go to Antwerp and never seen again. When the Jews lay down they try to sing there song. He was laying down asking himself where his mom and sister are now. The guards weren't in a hurry for the transport so they were cheerful about that. People that loose faith gets bad punishment or freedom after death. They all got more blows then food. They had to work in the cold, but they got used to it. Christmas and New Year they didn't work and they got less transparent soup. He had to get his feet fixed by the doctor before it got bad. The bell, roll call, and work bells were gone because he was where all the sick people were.  His dad wants him to stay for two weeks to get the proper rest. They removed all the puss that was in the one foot. The red army was racing to Buna. That night they heard cannons firing. Hitler was the only one that kept his promises to the Jewish people none of the guards did. At 4 o'clock the blockbuster went in for there daily report and once they all came back they only said the word "the last night in," and remain in one spot. Everyone was really cold because of the snow that wouldn't stop falling. He thinks that something even darker was waiting for him on the other side of the gates. Mrs. Schachter is the minor. She is tense with piercing eyes. The fire is foreshadowed to the concentration camp where all of them are going to get burned in the cremation place. She seen it coming. She kept yelling about a fire that she seemed to be shown outside. She was on fire and they did not believe her one bit, no one cared and didn't consider her so they put a towel in her mouth and tied her up. Her eyes are blank now. (26)
She got free and yelled fire again and they beat he so she had stopped. She kept on referring to a fire int he same direction. She was right and once they were on the train and she yelled once again. The flames were right in front of there faces and they had to get out with the flames right in front of them. some guy knows that where the smoke is it's going to be there death, where there going to die, and he lied to the crazy/mad doctor twice. 
He knew and believed what was going on that's going to happen and they knew it was a place to kill them. 
He saw kids and babies get burned alive.
His dad was sad because most kids go with there most. He thinks everything is messed up now in this world. He is loosing faith saying he can run into the barbed wire to kill themselves. Him and his dad were going to get burned up. He lied and said he was 18 and his dad lied and said he was 40. They were about to kill themselves but there god was with them and he didn't do it.

There owner or main leader met them. He was a stocky man with big shoulders, the neck of a bull, thick lips, and curly hair. He gave off the impression that had grey-blue eyes were just kindness. Everyone likes camp Buna better then the first two camps. They had to stay in the tents but 3 days later they will have to do more work. He was allowed to stay with his father. Someone wanted Elie's shoes for a rotation of bread and margarine. They needed a check up and Elie was first to get checked and they were looking for gold teeth, because they listed there numbers.
