Many of her books are inspired by the neighborhood she lived in. She does most of her writing in her writing nook, surrounded by inspiring quotes, photos of loved ones and art. All because of her books, Renee has traveled to Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and many places in the united states. All the places Renee has traveled to her two favorites are Oregon and New York. she loves them so much that she lives in both places--Portland and Harlem. 2) Vanport flood happened in 1948 which caused nearly 18,500 African Americans to become homeless. 

3) Vanport flood also caused a lot of African Americans to descend to Portland Oregon which made white Americans upset and become discriminatory towards black people which caused redlining.
