In the book THE MAZE RUNNER there is people with power and people without power. But there is also people who want power that don’t have any. The main character Thomas has no power, but wants the power being a maze runner. Chuck on the other hand submits to power and just follows the rules. Alby and newt exerts power through the story. Gally also seeks power just like Thomas does. The systemic obstacles they face are the maze , Grievers , and the people that holding them in the glade. The term Griever mean “suffer” when anyone gets stung by a Griever they suffer from the sting.

Another topic can be the symbolism used, the world “wicked” keeps appearing are the people in charge behind all this? And to close this Thomas is resisting to power, when he runs into the maze as he breaks the number one rule. He disobeys Newt’s command not to go in, yet he does and ends up getting stuck with Alby and Minho. I think Thomas is a anti-hero because he is the main character and Thomas feels that he should be a runner. Chuck is the sidekick because he is always with Thomas. Alby and Minho are mentors because they show Thomas what he should do and how to act.
