D-Day, also known as the Battle of Normandy, was fought in between the Allied nations and the German forces that were occupying Western Europe. The Allies set up the battle so that it was along the coastal region of Northwestern Europe. The Allies crossed the english channel and littered the beaches of France with hidden mines, wooden stakes, and barbed wire.

The coastal attacks were a smart move because it enabled the Allies to sneak up on Germany, especially considering the unfortunate weather during the time of the attack. These sneak attacks were named “amphibious” and were partnered with aerial attacks.

After taking over northern France in June of 1944, the Allies continued on toward Germany, where they would meet up with Soviet troops from the east. The Ally countries made extensive plans and and made sure that the German’s didn’t figure out the target of invasion. Nazi Germany had surrendered by the spring of 1945. The Battle of Normandy is significant our history because it was the battle that ended World War II. The invasion of the Allies was the essential piece to defeating Germany once and for all.
