It's important to provide students with enough "think time," or what I like to refer to as "wait time." By having time to process a concept being taught and being given a variety of ways to interpret content, students feel in control of their own learning and develop life-long strategies that help them problem solve. I've introduced my students to thinking maps and other graphic organizers to assist them with processing new information. I will definintely continue to build cognitive routines that look at whole to part, or similar vs. different. "Stor-ify" sounds like a great approach for helping my students "chew" on information presented in the content area.
Annemarie Gunn

Chunking involves breaking up sections into manageable parts or "breaking it down." It helps to narrow students' focus and allows them to enjoy small successes that, when put together, can lead to achievement of the overall lesson objective. I love to take a long reading passage and give students only a few paragraphs to read at a time. Then I pose one comprehension question about that particular section. It is a lot easier for students to find textual evidence when looking at only a few paragraphs, than an entire reading passage.
-Deanna Cappello

The process of recall is essential to make sure those neurological connections are strong and make their way to long term memory. They need the time to ask questions, and clear up things they are struggling with before they take their summative assessment.
-Rob Hildebrand
