Her unique brand of rocky pop music really stood out to me amongst other female artists at the time. The social themes of her music are about love, trust,having fun, being your unapologetic self, and not letting other people make you feel small. Everything from her personal style, to her raspy voice, to her acrobatic stage performances were breaking the gender norms at the time. Her incredible amount of skill across multiple types of artforms is a massive inspiration to me, as well as her respect for her craft. She was, and still is, immensely successful. Her music is dancy and upbeat, melodic and poppy with catchy choruses, and she has a sweet, girlish voice.  The social themes of her music are predominantly love, sex, and relationships. Pink’s lyrics have similar themes, based around love and relationships, and her music is melodic and catchy in a more modern way. Pink was inspired by how fierce Madonna is, and how her music pushed boundaries. Her vocals were raucous and bluesy, and she was said to have an electric stage presence. Pink seems to have taken influence from Janis in terms of her stage presence, which is also electric. She also has a similar fierce and uninhibited musical style, with raucous vocals that are also sometimes very bluesy. Linda sings with a lot of emotion in her voice, and her lyrics are sung with passion and intention, which is something that Pink has said was a huge inspiration to her (Planet Rock Profiles, 2020). Pink also carries a lot of emotion in her performances, and she writes lyrics with intention that shines through in her live shows. He created music that was in-your-face and catchy. I really loved the guitars in the music, and the rock and roll genre was much different to what I was used to hearing on the radio. His scat-like vocals and energetic stage presence give the band an edgy aesthetic, while his poetic lyrics have a lot of meaning and intention behind them, and carry a lot of emotion, which can be felt by the audience. Kiedis has stated “To me, there’s nothing more meaningful than music and dancing. His lyrics cover topics like romance and love, but also branch out to metaphorical social commentary, and his words carry passion and intention. His classic hit ‘Heart of Gold’ is the song that initially sparked Anthony Kiedis’ love of music (Starkey, 2021), and he was inspired by the incredibly emotive delivery of the lyrics, and the way the music was able to move him. He was an incredible composer and a multi-instrumentalist who showed great dedication and love for his craft. His early music was funky and soulful, and his later music incorporated influences like jazz, heavy metal, punk, and hip hop. He drew inspiration for his writing from his own experience, emotion and imagination, and used direct language to display violent and often sexual imagery. He has a consistent style that projects the struggles that he has faced in life. Anthony Kiedis is also known for his use of salacious and sometimes violent imagery in his lyrics, which was likely due to the influence of Charles Bukowski. The ambient, emotional rock music that she makes is emotive and moving. Her vocals are drenched in emotion, and use of more classical instruments like piano and violin in their music creates a beautifully dark atmosphere. Her lyrics are about love, loss, loneliness, and a range of other powerful and relatable feelings.  She has stated “I love contrast in music — I love when you can put something really dark with something really light or put something really heavy with something beautiful.”(EVANESCENCE’s AMY LEE: “I Love Contrast in Music,” 2021) and I think that the contrast in the music that she makes is really beautiful, and a big inspiration to me, musically. Unlike most other composers at the time, he wrote music in all of the musical genres of his day, and excelled at all of them. His music has a wide range of expression, and was written with great technical skill. He was extremely dedicated to his craft from a very early age, and his music has inspired many people throughout history. I think that Amy Lee’s music has similarities to the music of Mozart, in the sense that the music is highly emotional, in a way that makes you feel the emotion that is trying to be conveyed, even without lyrical content. Amy Lee has stated that she was obsessed with Mozart as a child, and that is what made her aspire to become a composer. She wanted to make music that made her feel so passionately (Lach, 2020).
