In the beginning of the book, Johnny is tired of being a greaser, just like Ponyboy. Like when the Socs came, Pony said “Johnny was scared to death. He was as white as a ghost and his eyes were wild-looking”(48). But he learns to live with it just like Dally. Also in the book, he shines when Dally says that the gang, including himself, is all proud Johnny, “Johnny’s eyes glowed. Dally was proud of him. I ain’t got nobody” (45). That fear gives him trouble, like when he kills Bob at the park. Johnny is also static, because he stays to himself throughout the entire book. Johnny is a flat character, because we only know bits and pieces of who he is. Like the book, Gone with the Wind, the only person who knew what Johnny was talking about in the hospital was Pony, mostly because they were the only ones stuck in the church, but partially because, Dally or Two-Bit wouldn’t understand, “The book -can you get another one?...Two-Bit looked at me. I hadn’t told him about Gone with the Wind” (102). Also, from the personality test, it says that Johnny is able “...to communicate deeply with others, easily speaking in metaphors and parables, and understanding and creating symbols to share their ideas” I think think that this is true because at the end of the book, Johnny tells Pony to “stay gold”, which came from a poem. He was talking deeply with Ponyboy in the letter, telling him that it was okay, “Like the way you dig sunsets, Pony. That’s gold.
