School plays an integral part of our children’s lives, educating and helping to mould and shape our children into young adults, ready to take on the world. In its most successful form, school represents a tri-relationship between the student, teachers and parents, all working together for the greater good of the child.

While there are always challenges along the journey, for the vast majority the relationship between the family and the school will be a positive one, with a positive outcome for the student. What is becoming concerning is the growing rate in which the relationship between the family and the school has broken down, which in the most extreme cases has led to teachers and principals being abused, even physically attacked by angry parents, or worse - undisciplined learners.

Learners attacking their educators has become something we all cringe to, but rather stay put only because what do we do in such cases? The law puts the learners first. But is that how it's supposed to be?

I recently had a conversation with an educators who said, and I quote: "I'm scared to reprimand any learner in my class cause I don't know what he or she has hidden in their backpacks. Even if there's nothing hidden, that same kid can come back tomorrow guns blazing, and I mean that literally."

As much as I am excited about entering the field, I'm very much afraid of what awaits me there.

One I just need to point out that the government doesn't really do much on protecting our educators. Teachers do have a huge impact on our lives. Teachers do not just provide an education, they provide structure, counseling, patience, support, and a moral compass. They also have to protect themselves which I find it unfair for educators. This is an amazing awareness which needs to be raised and taken seriously.

I most definitely agree with you the system only protects the students and leave out the teachers and that’s not how it should go because in a learning environment there is a learner and a teacher. And learners always feel entitled and that teachers can’t do anything to them and the system should change and protect both learners and teachers

very true. teachers are not super heroes , they are human too.

they must be protected. teacher's are not protected in schools. there's not much security. teacher's were supposed to have tight securities because teachers nowadays are being killed by their own learners.
