There are different ways to identify Deaf-Blindness and this is dependent on the age of the person being identified. If a newborn is born deaf blind, it will most of the time be picked up during newborn screening, but if it is not it can be later detected in routine checks as the child gets older. If an adult has developed deaf-blindness (which is most cases) they themselves can notice the deterioration of their sight and hearing. Once deaf-blindness is identified an assent should be arranged next. The assessment should includes tests related to communication, one-to-one human contact, social interaction, emotional wellbeing, support with mobility, assistive technology, as well as rehabilitation.
