She worked endlessly - late nights, weekends, throughout school holidays - to improve our school, help students and support staff to do their best work. 

Mrs. Foster was always up for a chat - had a very relaxed "open door" policy. People would often wander in just to say hi, or ask a quick question, and end up staying in there for hours, because she loved to talk and it was so lovely to chat with her. Sometimes, I'd pack all my bags to leave school, head downstairs to her office at 4:30pm or 5:00pm and wouldn't leave until 6:00pm but would have the best time chatting with her!

When I (Miss Callanan) got my job at Murrumbeena, I had to interview for the position. Mrs. Foster was on the panel. I walked into that interview absolutely petrified and desperately hoping to get a job at this beautiful school. Her smile immediately put me at ease, as did her sense of humour. She called me at 8:30pm that very same day to let me know I got the job. She said, "I knew you would be so happy, so I just couldn't wait until tomorrow to call!".

Mrs. Foster, we are so grateful for you - everything you did to our school and all the goodness we brought to the world. She was the first principal I ever worked for (in nearly 30 years), who spent more time in the school community with parents, teachers and students than she did in her office.  

She would always sincerely ask 'How are you going?' and take the time to listen and chat (one of her favourite things to do).
 
 She went out of her way to help anyone and would always end a conversation or predicament with a smile or a laugh, so you knew everything would be ok.

 Mrs Foster steered us all through the first ever 'Remote Learning', working extenuatingly long hours, putting her beloved school community, particularly the student, first. 

Mrs Foster was our principal and friend, of whom I am fortunate to hold the fondest of memories.

 I unfortunately never had the pleasure to meet Lynne in person, however, like Miss Callanan I had the loveliest experience chatting with Lynne during my online interview last year when I applied to work at MPS. I could tell from just this meeting with her that she was passionate, kind-hearted and driven to make Murrumbeena Primary School the best school it could be. 
 
 In my short time at MPS this year I have continued to hear staff speak so highly of Mrs Foster. I have heard many times about what a hardworking and knowledgeable Principal Mrs Foster was and I know that she will be missed greatly.

She was fun, happy and most importantly knew how to get things done in a way that was ALWAYS enjoyable. The experience that I remembered with Mrs Foster the most was when I would find her office open and act as if it was my office, at the start of the preparation time I had with her for graduation. She would walk in and I would always ask her silly questions like, what brings you to my office today and I see you are in here quite often? I offer my deepest condolences and hope that the lasting legacy Lynne leaves on our school and lives is some comfort in this very difficult time. 

Lynne was the first to arrive and the last to leave every single day. She had a deep passion for her school, it’s students and staff. Lynne no matter how busy she was made sure you knew her door was always open for a quick chat that was never a quick chat. She listened with an open mind, smiling knowingly when she knew where the conversation was leading as she composed her response.

Lynne saw in me so many things I hadn’t, she pushed me out of my comfort zone daily and constantly reminded me of balance and how important time with my family was no matter what else was going on around me. I was so very lucky to have her as a leadership mentor for a year and the time we spent together and the conversations we had in this time will be something I hold dear. I am the teacher, mother and person I am today because of this partnership.

No words can accurately express how big the space will be that Lynne leaves, all we can do now is celebrate her astonishing achievements at MPS and send our many thanks for the time we had with her as our principal and more importantly as our friend.

I would like to send my deepest condolences on the passing of Lynne. The entire school community is thinking of you all during this difficult time and send our love to you and your extended family. 

While I only knew Lynne for three years, she made an incredible impact on my life. She was such a supportive, kind and compassionate person. She was there for me, both personally and professionally. She offered me support, advice and guidance throughout my first few years of teaching and I am eternally grateful to her for that. When I met her for the first time, in my interview, I felt at ease and welcomed, a feeling I hadn’t felt before during a job interview. Her kindness and care for the school and its community shone through, even through our short conversation. She gave me the opportunity to become a part of the MPS community, and made me feel welcome from the first very day. 

Throughout these past few years, she was there, leading us through all the ups and downs of teaching. She led us through our remote learning of 2020, a time we couldn’t have survived without her leadership. She was always there for every single staff member, student or member of the school community. She was always up for a friendly chat, sometimes to the point that you’d realise that you’ve been standing at the door of her office for half an hour and really needed to leave. But that was Lynne, she always welcomed people and made them feel at ease. I am so grateful that I got to know her, and learn from her over these past few years. She will always be remembered by me for her cheeky sense of humour, quick wit, passion for education and kind smile.

I was sorry to not have had the opportunity to get to know her better. I remember when she reached out to assist me, frustrated with Compass and logins, when we first transitioned to the system. I wasn't able to log on and had come to the school office some time after the end of day bell, feeling deflated. Lynne saw me and immediately asked how she could help, ushering me into her office. "We'll sort this out", she announced. She allowed me to sit at her desk (what a privilege I thought!) and helped me navigate it all on her computer. She made sure I had access before I left.  Such consideration and support was totally unexpected.
Mrs Tarrant (former Prep teacher at MPS) once shared a series of quotes with Prep parents and one of these I recall now: "Children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see" - John W. Whitehead. It will be a bright future, Lynne. Thank you for enduring commitment to our children.

I'll never forget being on the interview panel when Mrs Foster applied for the job as principal of Murrumbeena. Her passion for the students, for quality teaching and learning and her personable manner was clearly a cut above the rest. From the moment Mrs Foster was appointed to the role she set about her goal of making our school a place where everyone wanted to be. A school that wasn't just high performing academically, but one where the staff, students and their families feel they belong. Lynne saw qualities in each of us that we often didn't realise we had at the time. She believed in and lived by the school's motto 'Excellence though Endeavour' and encouraged or challenged us to be our best person.  Mrs Foster could be seen every morning and every afternoon outside talking with students and families, ready to give a helping hand or just enjoying a chat and a laugh. So many wonderful memories. 
This photo shows Mrs Foster at a conference we attended. We were used to the kids  mixing up our names, but roared laughing when the organisers called you Rochellee Foster and I was Lynne Plumb. We knew our lives were similar, but this put a stamp on it! The stories we shared will never be forgotten. Mrs Foster made time for everyone: she remembered birthdays, special occasions, acknowledged the celebrations of staff and to be honest was one of the most thoughtful and generous people I know.  
To her ever supportive husband John and children Lee and Emma, please know that your wife and mum touched the lives of so many in so many positive ways and her contributions will be remembered for years to come. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful person. xx

I remember being on the school council as well as being a staff member when Lynne was appointed Acting Principal. She then successfully applied and gained the permanent Principal role. I remember thinking that Lynne would continue our tradition of being a great school but Lynne had greater plans for Murrumbeena Primary. As a hard-working, diligent educator, she passionately worked to continually challenge and improve our school. Lynne reviewed all aspects of our school and set to work. We can still see and feel Lynne’s contributions at school when we look at the changes in the buildings and grounds and work with our students who are engaged and challenged by new programs and teaching approaches. Lynne was always available to advise, support and guide her staff but although we all knew and loved her capacity for ‘chatting’, she also listened and considered our opinions and situations. Lynne was passionate about supporting all children’s learning success and in particular was a huge supporter of programs to assist children learning ‘English as an Additional Language’ and children who needed extra support in their learning. 

 I have missed and will continue to miss having a chat with Lynne but also knowing her as a leader and friend.

When I first met Mrs Foster at another school I knew she was a special principal. Even from a school tour she stood out as a magnificent principal - she was strides above the rest.

And at MPS I saw a talented and warm leader- she had such passion and wisdom. She was always visible and connected to the staff and the children. She was extremely hard working and lovely. The teachers loved being at school. We will miss you so much. Thank you for the wonderful years. 

You will always be special and inspirational to me.

This world of ours, and the Murrumbeena community, have lost a beautiful soul.
 
I will never forget how kind, empathetic, considerate, thoughtful and driven Lynne was. She had an incredibly positive impact on me. She has made me the teacher I am today and I will be forever grateful for her support and wise words. She will always have a special place in my heart. Lynne had a similar impact on all of the staff members, students and families. She worked incredibly hard, and I know all of the remarkable things about her will be fondly remembered always.
 
My favourite memory of Lynne was when she learnt her dance concert solo with Chellee and I remember her saying to us, “can’t Chellee just do all the dance moves!” Nonetheless, she pushed on and her lively spirit, beautiful smile, positive energy and willingness to give it a go resulted in an amazing solo on concert night. All of the students, teachers and parents LOVED IT!
Lynne’s professionalism, enthusiastic nature, ‘have a go’ attitude and willingness to have fun made her an incredible principal. She was a fantastic role model and will be dearly missed by the Murrumbeena community.

 I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to you at this difficult time. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing what a positive impact Lynne had on our whole school community. Whenever she popped into the classroom, the childrens’ faces lit up and they were always so eager to share something with her. As a leader, Lynne was supportive, open-minded and approachable from day one. As has been mentioned many times, Lynne kept her door open for a chat and was always ready to share a laugh, talk footy or give advice. I walked away from many conversations with Lynne with greater confidence in myself as a teacher. She had the ability to make me feel positive that I was able to tackle whatever it was that I had walked in to talk to her about. We are all so grateful to have worked alongside her at MPS and to have shared many treasured memories. She will be greatly missed.

I worked with Lynne for a term last year and felt the wonderful impact that she had on Murrumbeena PS in that time. From the day she interviewed me for my job, I experienced Lynne's friendly, caring and positive manner. She certainly set the tone for our school, which was, and still is a place of compassion, diversity and tolerance. I was especially impressed with her professionalism, yet she was able to laugh at and appreciate the little things.

We were attending many hospital appointments in her kinder year, and we really appreciated being able to speak and meet with Mrs Foster in person. Mrs Foster understood, and with little fuss, offered kind support to her transition to school. Additionally, when Lia did start school with the lovely Mrs Tarrant - Lia spoke fondly of Mrs Foster joining her lesson for many activities, including watching her classroom play. Our deepest condolences to Lynne's family, friends and colleagues during this time.
