         <description><![CDATA[<div>My students noticed that our alevin has two heads..with further research we learned that these are conjoined twins. We would like to know more about this phenomenon.How often does this occur at the hatcheries and in nature? We are wondering if they will make it to the fry stage ..they seem to be attached at the yolk sac.<br><br><br>This is a great and unique observations that you and our class have come across! Conjoined twins occur in nature however these young fish are not likely to successfully develop to fry. Conjoined fish often have deformities that make it hard for them to develop beyond fry as portions of their body may be attached or fused together. -Fish Biologist Desiree</div>]]></description>

I currently work on managing habitat restoration projects and assist with monitoring salmon and steelhead populations. Working with fish is my passion, and it’s something I’ve known I wanted to do in life since I was a kid. In elementary school, I took part in Trout In The Classroom, and it was a big inspiration for me! I was also inspired to work with fish due to my love of keeping aquariums (I have a 125 gallon tropical freshwater tank at home) and fishing.          <description><![CDATA[<p>My name is Desiree Dela Vega and I am a Fisheries Biologist working for CDFW. I currently work to advance projects that restore habitat for fish and wildlife and in past work I collected information about native fishes and their habitats across the north bay area. As a kid growing up in the north bay, I spent most of my summers swimming and boating in the Russian River as well as collecting frogs and bugs in buckets to show my friends and family. Later in college, I learned I could get a job doing what I loved. I am happy to help answer any of your great questions. And don’t forget that all of you can protect our watersheds and the animals that live in them.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><em>My name is Hannah Guiles and I am a Fisheries Biologist for CDFW. I work in our lakes and rivers to monitor for and prevent the spread of invasives species from entering our waterways to help maintain a healthy natural ecosystem. I grew up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada where me and my family loved to go hiking, swimming, and camping. At our house we always had a lot of animals like 4 dogs, 6 cats, 2 bunnies, many chickens, a couple pigs, and a fish pond. My love for nature and animals inspired me to go to college to study biology. I’m looking forward to answering your questions!</em></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>¡Hola y que buena pregunta! Las truchas arcoiris tienen varias estrategias para sobrevivir en la naturaleza (una vez soltadas). Cuando están preparadas para salir a la cuenca, suelen buscar un hábitat adecuado que tenga suficiente comida para alimentarse y crecer hasta convertirse en peces más grandes y que tenga una buena cobertura para esconderse de los depredadores. A veces, estos peces se desplazan en pequeños grupos para buscar hábitat, pero otras veces lo hacen solos.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Hola TV Elementary School. Los huevecillos de trucha son muy delicados cuenda se están desarrollando en la grava. Por lo tanto, cambios extremos como como quitar piedras o agua fresca oxigenada, podría provocar su muerte. Cuando se convierten en pececillos y empiezan a nadar en el acuario, pueden ser sensibles a los ruidos fuertes que viajan por el agua en la que viven. Pero los sonidos que vienen de su aula probablemente no los disturban. Sin embargo, sonidos como golpear con fuerza el vidrio de su acuario pueden molestarles. (Recuerda a Darla en “Finding Nemo”.) En los ríos, lagos y arroyos, los peces suelen ser más activos en la noche. Pueden evadir a depredadores mejor en la oscuridad cuando están buscando comida. Finalmente, un dato divertido es que la trucha arcoíris y la trucha “steelhead” son en realidad la misma especie. Las truchas arcoíris son los peces que permanecen en el agua dulce toda su vida, mientras que las truchas “steelhead” son los peces que van al océano durante parte de su vida y después regresan al agua dulce para desovar.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Muchos peces tienen una etapa de “ojo” en su desarrollo de huevecillo a pez, incluidos el salmón Chinook, la trucha común, y el salmón rojo, entro muchos más. Los peces incluyendo a la trucha arcoiris no regulan la temperatura de su cuerpo mediante sudor porque no tienen glándulas de sudor. En vez, ellos buscan áreas en la corriente del río o lago donde haya agua más fría o más cálida para regular su temperatura corporal.</p>]]></description>
