Angelica Kong, Grade 9

I chose this artwork because I felt a strong connection towards it. The poem I chose motivated me to create this piece inspired by my past as I could connect to it personally. I used graphic design to create this piece. My artwork is mostly made of linart. In my artwork, there are two figures. One with open ribs, that represent starvation, and another with cuts. Because of their similar insecurities, they are able to connect and understand each other. For anyone who goes through a traumatizing event in their life, it'll be hard for them to open up in that topic as they think no one else would understand. Finding someone who understands your pain is rare, but when you do, you'll feel like everything's gonna be okay.

Ashley Fu, Grade 12

This piece of artwork will always remind me of the four years I have spend in Hong Kong. The trams are a unique symbol to Hong Kong's identity, there is a strong connection with this piece of artwork since it made me felt like Hong Kong was a second home. This art piece was made with a lot of different materials for example the different papers that is on there and the stiches sewed on, most importantly are the prints that is on the trams. There are a lot of layers on this piece of artwork. I tried to make it look as vibrant as well as vintage looking at the same time to indicate how long the trams have been running in Hong Kong. This art work gives me another inspiration on how I want to keep looking for what is unique in Hong Kong and what there is that is making this place so special.

Suzette Chu, Grade 12

The inspiration for this series is to show another side of the model's life. In this series we can tell the model does not smile as much as usual which has shown the other side of her life. When I create this series, I have used my phone, the cellophane, and the slip caution board. I used these materials because I wanted to deliver a unique message with all of the different warm colors. This artwork means a lot for me since this is my first time using cellophane to create a photo series and the message that delivers from the series is telling me that not everyone has to be happy and smile every day. Although the color of the series is bright and warm, the model does not have to force to show her energy and smile in every photo. The main message that is meaningful to me is I could just be myself no matter the world is bright or not. Everyone could have his/her negative side deep in their heart.

Emma Jiang, Grade 9

The artwork is drawn based on the poem written by the English class student, I choose this artwork because I feel inspired by the poem and its emotion. The poem describes how a person sold his soul to the devil to exchange his sight. The person pursuing the thing he wants no matter whatever the cost will be, this firm personality really inspires me. So, I drew out the image of this scene in my mind. The illustration is drawn digitally. Some brushes I use are airbrush and script liner. I think this artwork is very meaningful, because I can actually express the emotions I feel toward the poem by drawing it out. This way, more people might be inspired by this firm spiritual personality.

Gigi Nam, Grade 9

This is a photograph of my cat, I choose this picture because this can show his appearance clearly. Instead of taking something non-living, I want to try capture pictures of a living thing. I tried different ways and angles to take a good photo that’s not blurry. I was inspired by Ms.Hill's cat when I first saw her series of photos. At first, I have an idea of taking something my cat will do in his day. But it was difficult since he wouldn't focus on thing particularly. So I tried take pictures when he was playing, fortunately it works out well. I apply composition rule therefore the audience will focus on him first.

Hallie Wong, Grade 11

This photo series, “The Beauty of Happiness” captures the reactions of the three models after receiving compliments like, “you look good” or “you are beautiful.” The reason why I chose these three people in particular is because they mean a lot to me personally and they are willing to participate in this photo series. They were shot with my iPhone and they were edited with black and white filters and collages. The collages of different sources of happiness display how small things can create a lot of merriment. The message I wanted to convey through this project is the importance and beauty of true happiness.

Hiu-Yan Yung, Grade 9

This artwork is an interpretation of a poem called ‘Time is tired’. I used lots of different materials such as pen, pencil, colour pencils, and markers. In my artwork the melting clock represents that time is tired. I put the city in the clock to represent the fact that people are obsessed with time. The city appears to be melting into nature because we spend most of the time working and not enjoying nature.

Nikita Pazzano, Grade 9

This artwork is part of my photography series where I decided to take pictures of lights and signs I could find around Hong Kong. I decided to take my pictures during the night or when there wasn't much sunlight left, this made the lights and the signs would be brighter but also create contrast with the background. I have no specific reason for choosing the signs that I did, I mostly was trying to find the signs that glowed the most during the night.

Mun Tung Ip, Grade 9

I chose this work of art because the poem aroused my interest. This poem is about the real world, the dark side of the real world, people living in a world full of lies. This interests me because I like the way the author explains the real world, people always deceive each other and sometimes live like clowns. I made this artwork with pencils, markers, and color pencils. I think the most interesting thing about this work of art is the topic of a lie. Some people always live like clowns that how they "wear a mask" and lie to others.

I chose this artwork because I feel like it can connect to lots of people including myself. And I appreciate his simple yet powerful art style. The art work is just a simple digital drawing but his style is still found in the art. Work can sometimes be tiring and sometimes the only thing that keeps you foward might be the pay check or whatever that is benefiting them, I sometime feels like school works the same generally and might be tidious, exhausting sometimes.

The tram is one of the best representations of Hong Kong. This photography idea came when I was hanging out with my friend in Sai Ying Pun, I wanted to capture the old side of Hong Kong. I used IPhone to capture the artwork and used Photoshop to final edit the artwork by adjusting the brightness, contrast and etc. I hope my audience finds this artwork interesting.

By doing so, combining objects with deep meaning such as a gun and flowers which represents how looks can lead to betrayal or a heart and a hook which shows how often people fall into the idea of love when it could sometimes just hurt them even more. I wanted to communicate the meaning behind this through art, with the use of strong dark colors to match my theme.

My art work is created by pencil only, because black and life is showing more like still life artwork by famous artist in the past. And by using pencil, it can shows the contrast between one and other. The artwork is refer to the photo I took in real life, I tried in different angle in other to make the photo look more still life, interest in each other, and the object are in middle to catch people eyes, and there are some leading lines. This artwork inspired me because I can't believe that I can draw this kind of artwork, in the pass, everyone know I am super bad in art, but in this unit, it change my mind.

Samantha Choi, Grade 11

This photo series captured different emotion of a person in her life. This means a lot because everyone will experience different challenges or different things everyday. In all the images, I have used at least 2 images and edited them together to create an abtract feeling expressing a complex feeling to audeinces, representing how a person can act or have different feelings in different environment. The inspiration behind this photot series is the situation of Hong Kong right now, where people is feeling stressful and frustrated as they are seeing the beauty of Hong Kong slowly disappeaing every day, therefore, I have used a darker color scheme to match the strong emotion I have towards the siatution of Hong Kong.

In my artwork, I decided to draw fruits and add a modern twist to it by adding a Haagen Daz ice cream cover in the middle. This artwork represents how I'm both a healthy and unhealthy person and the ice cream cover is suppose to help viewers identify that this is a modern still life artwork. I used several materials such as pencil, acrylic paint, mineral spirit, and paint brushes.

Sofia Ng, Grade 9

For this artwork, I was interpreting a poem revolving around the topic of murder, while conveying melancholy and nostalgic feels. The images I created were based off watercolors and graphite, to give a realistic but effortless texture. To indicate these tender emotions, I wanted this artwork to be a representation of the relationship of two youths while feeding off each other's energy to create a ying yang effect as they were together. However, like the poem describes, it transitions to the event of the murder, leaving the male to feel lost in himself without his significant other, almost like a break within the balance of the ying yang effect.. The male's loss and grief is represented into a night full of stars, shown in his face. The main picture of both of the couple's heads harmonized together is meant to express their balance, while the interpretation of the gun and their embrace represents the event of the murder.

Morgan Rines, Grade 9

This is my interpretation of one of the English students poems. The students poem was about experiencing a nightmare. In my artwork I drew a person with two facial expressions, terror and fear. Not only did I use the facial expressions to represent the feeling of a nightmare but I also used red, orange, and yellows to help improve the message.

Michelle Favretto, Grade 9

This is my collage artwork for the Unique HK unit. I included a Mister Softee ice cream and egg waffles because they're Hong Kong food that I love and used to eat very often as a child. I sketched and coloured the ice cream on paper, used fabric and tissue paper for the cone, did print-making for the egg waffles, and then sewed the ice cream and its cone onto the big piece of paper.
Michelle Favretto

Harshini Sundar, Grade 10

This is my collage for the Unique Hong Kong unit. To capture Hong Kong's true essence, I tried to potray a boat similar to ones we see in Hong Kong's harbour. The process I used was I first outlined a boat, and then I colored in the bottom of the boat. For the sails, to make my project less normal, I used paper mache with red paper and painted it on the paper. After that, I used string to make the rope that holds the sail onto the boat. After that, I added waves around the bottom of the boat to give an ocean effect. - Harshini Sundar

Sharleen Sundar, Grade 9

This is an artist trading card inspired by Banksy. The trading card of the monkey is one of Banksy's original artwork, and the other two are my own original pieces. Banksy's art is usually controversial or world wide topics, so I made my trading cards according to that. Both trading cards are similar to Banksy's since it's about how the world is changing and negatively affecting our environment.
