I believe that what brings people together is not an easy and concrete answer. We have been experiencing a great divide socially and physically in our current state. I think that empathy truly can bring humans together in a humanitarian context, however due to the grand connections social media brings us impacts this empathy. We have become so numb behind screens that our natural desire to feel and understand one another has been significantly altered into new ideas and many see the world as a place for them to get ahead rather than bring each other up. Knowledge, language, true empathy, and listening are what bring people together.

Humans are social creatures and I think the majority of us require relationships to be happy. However, many of us may be bonded to people we do not want or expect to be. This can happen through a common experiences and commonalities in general. I think experience plays a big part in relationships as our experiences form us as people, but can also form relationships with other people. Whether it is a tragedy or a joyous occasion, we often feel connected to the people we share life moments with.

People are brought and bound together by shared experiences and emotions. A sense of togetherness can be felt most strongly when people come together and are able to share a part of themselves with each other, whether it be in a classroom, on the sports field, or simply passing each other on a walk in the park. I am feeling as though the past months have demonstrated like never before that people do not have to physically be together in order to be feel a sense of togetherness. This shared experience can happen online, through email, chat rooms and video calls, even though it may take some getting used to. though it seemed uncomfortable at first

In the current state of the world, many pressing and urgent matters are divided based on biased thoughts (pandemic, civil rights, politics). These topics that create these "sides" should not be biased and instead be viewed as urgent matters that require a unified reaction from the public. The biases in 2020 are not binding people together collectively, but similar opinions create bonds amongst people.

By this I do not solely mean sharing a part of yourself that is emotional and deeper. It could be as simple as sharing a home-cooked meal, taking part in others traditions and customs. Any situation where you are able to have your guard down, people can come in. Often, once people see your guard is down, theirs will be as well. Being vulnerable could mean sharing a deeper or more secret part of yourself, but more generally it just means to show that you are human.

Shared experiences, ideas, interests, emotions, and the innate human desire for connection are all elements that bring people together. I think this is why the global pandemic has made a significant impact on the way that we as a society communicate with each other, as well as confront issues (both personal and societal). This is well portrayed in how we utilize technology. Without external distractions, and the inability to physically congregate, humans are using social media as a tool for not only for validation, but also as a means of communication, connection.

What brings and binds people together? It can be common ideas, interests, experiences, or basically anything that two or more people can find in common with each other. Although, in the end, we are all human and although two peoples lives can seem so dissimilar there's commonalities to be found everywhere in everyday life. To me, it's less about what brings people together and more about what keeps them in touch. Every situation is different, just as every person is, which is why the question is so difficult to answer, and why I don't really have an answer just yet. The destination and initial departure of every relationship throughout my life has always played second fiddle to the experiences and emotions I gained throughout them.
