He was a child actor and went to a drama school at a very early age, which was a liberating experience for him. Yet, he understood early on that he was better at writing and directing plays than at acting in them. He later graduated in Drama at McGill University, during which he attended the Royal Court Young Writers' Programme. He is now a Creative Writing Fellow and a Senior Lecturer at Southampton University. 

His work for adults and young audiences has been produced internationally and translated into multiple languages. He more recently started writing for television and film, he also teaches playwriting to young adults and teens (NT & prisons) --> they represent the vast majority of his target audience. His connection to youth in theatre and creative writing might explain his understanding of younger characters depth and sensibility. He draws inspiration from his life experience or from the news to write but also researches a lot into a subject and reaches out to people who experienced the situation first hand before deciding to/how to use it. 

Commonly found writing themes throughout his bibliography: conflict of identity, sense of self in opposition to the world, queer characters, low to middle-class characters, misogyny, sexuality, abuse and violence, often towards minors.

Jeffree Epstein Parker story came out prior to 2015--> Prince Andrew involved with underage minors so the characters would've probably heard about this case. A conversation on sexual assault and minor abuse goes on in the play, maybe originated by the media coverage around this event.
Going from a labour government to a more conservative one must have impacted the liberty of the teachers in their approach of SRE.

confront Dianne about what happened all those years ago, tell her how he feels. You could say also to inform her that he has reported her to the police, however I may consider the fact that he may have subconsciously done this for a reason to get back into contact with her. He has been stalking her since they lost contact 7 years ago. 

At 15, is a young teen who comes from a broken home, growing up with an neglectful and abusive father.
because of this, he gravitates towards the pastoral assistant at his school, Dianne. They form a close relationship, and he forms an attachment with her. 

Freddie is shown through the writing as a troubled young man. Beaten by his father when he was a teenager, we never really see Freddie happy in his life. He was clearly attracted to Diane, who paid him special attention when he was her student. She teaches kids about consent and healthy relationship yet she's not able to apply her advice when she's confronted with her own emotions.
Scene objective: finally confront him, get answers and apologies, maybe hope for him to still be attracted to you. 
As all the other character, she is not painted either as a victim or a culprit. She seems to hold high a lot of values theoretically but fails to acknowledge them in practice when it comes to her students. Younger her is very moved by & sensitive to Freddie's situation and ends up developing feelings of sexual nature towards him. 

Nathaniel's feedback: come from a more active perspective, not sorry for herself, wants answers and apologies from him. More firmness, rhythm has to be better. Be more playful in batting him away. More fire. Push the characterisation. Battle for status. Remember she comes from a place of hurt and abuse.
