“Talking To A Wall”

Communication between individuals throughout time has taken many forms. Stone, wood, leather, paper and digital media have all played an important role in expressing our thoughts to others who accept the responsibility of listening. Effective communication requires an active participant. Oftentimes these participants intentionally or subconsciously blockout incoming messages negating the discourse taking place. Some of the least effective listeners turn their cognitive back to what is willfully being presented to them through verbal or visual information. “Talking to a Wall” is my response to the active un-listener. This work reminds the viewer that others must be willing and have the desire to hear what is being said. Communicators who fail to recognize the un-listener are effectively as non-participatory as the party they wish to receive this communication.
