Using your response journal from your 5 lessons - please select one entry and post one glow/one grow from a lesson your reflected on in your journal. After identifying a glow/grow, please share the evidence you collected and what you learned from this particular lesson. (You can either write your post or use the film yourself option...found when you click on the 3 little dots.... which works like flipgrid....there are so many ways to post your response on Padlet!)

Glow: All the students were engaged in all parts of the lesson because they enjoyed the basketball activity they did first. When they were done they really wanted to know what their "basketball average" was. They were doing math and having fun!

glow: During POGIL activities, teams of 4 students created a shared google document. They were able to edit and add to the document at the same time. I was observing and listening to their discussion. While observing I saw each student taking ownership of some part of the document. During presentation, each student discussed some part of the project outcome.
Grow: I feel that some students may still be relying on the work of others. I need to incorporate some individual aspect to this type of project. Maybe a Think-pair-share?

#Observeme: Are students actively engaged in the learning target and to what extent can they demonstrate their proficiency of it by the end of the lesson?

Target: I can identify people and things on board the plane.
GLOW: Students were engaged as we chorally repeated the vocabulary for the chapter. Students were also actively engaged in annotating vocabulary with French to French definitions that they worked on in pairs first and then wrote together as a class. However, evidence of proficiency was limited to the closure activity at the end of the lesson and the activity was rather short.
GROW: I think students would be able to demonstrate proficiency of vocabulary more if I broke up the vocab in smaller chunks and created formative activities to practice as the vocabulary is introduced (i.e. after the section on places/things, stop and have students work in small groups orally identifying places in the picture and/or creating a short conversation based on the image).

Glow: All of the students were excited that they were starting the essay with the same base of experience and all together. They had just come out of a great Socratic and were visibly excited.

Grow: I could have them share specific concerns/questions prior so that the instruction is more targeted. Writing is so subjective and they are at such different levels that it is rough to meet all individual needs.

Glow: Most students appear to be rising to the challenge and taking responsibility
for the high standard of education.

Evidence: 95% of the class is working quietly alone or small groups. The kids are so engaged that I am actually bored with little to contribute.

Grow: A few students slip through the cracks and either can’t or won’t participate at the level I am expecting.

Evidence: After the teacher led portion of the lesson ends, one student raises their hand to ask when extra help is and then immediately puts down her pen.

Grow: From reflections I definitely noticed a theme of something I'd like to improve - making students care about the last 5 minutes of class as much as they care about any other part of the period. Typically, I have some type of summary question but I've noticed that students sometimes just write something down and pack up or wait for the bell to ring, I'm thinking about having them share their responses on Google Classroom as a way to work on this.
