Project based learning in health is utilized often and essential. Having students produce projects allows them for more engaged learning rather than passive activities like listening and taking notes. A good example of this is students doing a research and presentation project on drugs. Doing a project will help with student learning and retention.

A good problem based learning activity in class would be to create a fitness goal and learn and understand the math behind weight gain and loss, then create meal and exercise plans that meet individual needs.

This is a question you could ask to begin the inquiry model. Students could then collect data on information about SDI/STI's organize it in way that is clarifying and helps understanding like in a graph, and encourage students to ask questions for better understanding.

Authentic activities help students see real world application. An activity they could do in class is a local search for mental health and wellness groups such has counselors and therapists, rehabilitation centers, support groups, and other organizations. Having a list of real world resources helps student gain applicable understanding of real situations.

To promote cooperative learning, students can work in teams with individual roles. Such as an activity on mental health disorders, one student could read an article and share what the learned, another person could watch a video and share what they learned. One student could act as a scribe and write everything in a way that makes sense, another student could share it to the class or the group as a whole could create a presentation. They each work together with individual tasks, to achieve a goal through cooperation and communication. This same method could be used in a jigsaw pattern where the students learn about a topic, switch and teach other about it becoming "experts"

A really cool example of service learning in a health class would be allowing students to pick what they want to do, it could be volunteering as a boys and girls club, or a nursing home, picking up trash along a walking trail, helping an elderly neighbor or a new mom with housework, assisting someone with disabilities on a grocery shopping trip, or reading to kids at a library. I think letting the students pick how they want to serve, and write a reflection and share their experience would be a great way to do this and get the students excited about service.
