I have learned countless amounts of valuable knowledge throughout this course! From new vocabulary terms to learning how to speak in past tense. Before this course I was constrained to speaking Spanish in only the present tense. I actually took medical spanish 1 my first year, so taking the regular Spanish 2 has allowed me to learn so much more usable vocabulary. I feel like I could actually hold a simple conversation and describe parts of my life, this I was not able to do before Spanish 2. I can talk about my home, school, hobbies, the foods I like, and many more things!

Me gusté mis camisas extra-grande. Me gusté que todo mi ropa fuera grande para mí. Compré sandalias nuevas en España.

Spanish Language Versus English

Spanish and English may appear similar in letters and pronunciations but they're in fact very different in many ways. First off Spanish nouns are gendered, the articles "el" for masculine and "la" for feminine are used and they help to describe if the noun is masculine or feminine. In Spanish the adjectives come after the noun as opposed in English where they come first, for example in English you would say the big dog, if you were to translate that in Spanish it would read the dog big. It may seem confusing but actually it is easier in some ways because you know what the speaker is talking about before they describe it. Lastly I think the pronunciation is easier than in English, once you learn the rules it is easier to consistently pronounce things correctly.

I thought learning about Spanish culture was so interesting, it truly was my favorite part of the course. Learning about the holidays, was incredibly fascinating! I thought it was really cool many of them still tie back to a religious holiday or a religious figure. Even "La Tomatina" has some religious backing to it. People in Spain definitely know how to have fun, and still keep well rested with their daily afternoon Siesta. During that time of the day everyone slows down and may go home to eat and maybe take a nap. This allows them to go out and stay up later, but still be well rested the next day!

If and when I decide to pick Spanish back up, I would hope to continue learning about the culture (as that was my favorite part of the class). Secondly I would hope to advance more and more in my reading, writing, and listening abilities to become a better communicator with Spanish speaking people. I hope someday to be able to travel to Spain, and perhaps try some of my Spanish out there! I would love to see the culture up close and personal. Maybe even live there for a few months to learn and make memories! It is such a beautiful language and culture I can only hope to continue getting more knowledgeable and fluent within it.

This course was definitely something new, I had never taken any online course before let alone a language! It took some getting used to, I'm usually very on top of my work but seeing my weekly work wasn't due until the next Monday was a easy way to write off not doing it. A few weeks I would wait until the very last minute to do it (and i'm not proud of that either). Although as soon as I saw my grade beginning to drop I cut that bad habit out! Once I was used to the course I liked the routine of it all. Learning new things each week but in the same format each time was something I enjoyed as a student, I was never caught off guard of confused about an assignment. I thought learning a language online would be hard but I actually preferred it to the in class Spanish I took my freshman year.

I really liked the course all together honestly, I appreciated the practise assignments those are probably what helped me learn the most. I also liked all of the culture assignments they made me go back and look over a part of the notes I probably would've skipped over otherwise. The RLC's were nice, not my favorite though, I feel like I didn't get anything out of them no matter how much I payed attention and took notes. The times were also very hard for me because I have a busy schedule and they were always at the same times each time we had to do one and were never at a convenient time for me. Lastly on the final exam, during my last RLC my instructor said that the final exam would be a lot like the quizzes we had already took, and I can say I don't think it was anything like them. It was much harder, but I did feel well prepared in knowledge just saying it was going to be like the quizzes is misleading.

In the class I think the notes provided were good! I also used quizlet a lot, I think those help me with my vocabulary and memorization the most. I also made flashcards of the vocab notes to study from time to time, and having those right in front of me was incredibly helpful. The culture assignments were great at helping me to memorize and reflect on the culture topics of each unit instead of just reading them off the notes. I think if I were to continue learning spanish in the future I would continue using quizlet and perhaps look onto youtube for educational videos because they really helped me throughout the unit to get my spanish pronunciation down, from remembering the letters in the beginning of the course to practising difficult words towards the end! On youtube they have many helpful videos and I would recommend adding even more to the course.

I loved my teacher throughout this course, she was always helpful when I had any questions regarding a grade or even just for extra practise. She was always trying to get to know me better and building a close teacher-student relationship. I have dealt with some health issues and she has always been understanding with late work! She emailed reminding me of when work was due if it had not yet been completed, and was fast in getting grades back to me. When I had any questions or comments she was always prompt in texting me back or responding via canvas. I really do not think there was anything more I could've asked of her, she was great!
