In the video, the man states that hovering object “looked nothing like I had ever seen before.” This is an example of the belief of the Unexplained. It was a strange sight to him, so he did not know how to process the image. Having known about other “UFO” sightings in the world through news and other media, he assumed it was a UFO. The former Official claims that, during his years in the pentagon, he has observed foreign “aircrafts”. He also explains that the department focused on more of what it was and how it worked, more than “who was behind the steering wheel”. This meaning that based on the technology and mechanics, the objects they encountered had some sort of an anomaly. The video contains the red flag Appeal to Authority in the case that the interview is questioning a former government official. It also contains the belief of the Unexplained. The former official also explains that they examine the objects scientifically, while trying to remain unbiased to the belief that alien life and UFOs exist.

It happened in the United State, where an elderly man spotted lights in the sky that were moving, so he reported a “UFO sighting” to the local police, where 5 other officers investigated and seen the UFO as well. The event was all based on hear-say evidence which could easy come down to confirmation bias. The officers were informed of a “UFO sighting” and therefore seen what resembled a UFO. The story given by elderly man who initially spotted the UFO can easily be summed up to a belief regarding the Unexplained, Agenticity, and his Perception/Observation. The object could have been a blimp or balloon.

It is a place for people to seek refuge in their belief and to share stories, photo’s, video’s etc. Through examination of the website, you will find that it is littered with a few reasons for belief such as that of the Unexplained, Agenticity and Emotional Connections. Through articles, photos, videos, and even a “Live UFO Map” tracker, the website offers many red flags such as proof by verbosity, ideological support, mystical energy, and red herrings. The article includes red flags such as Appeal to Authority by using celebrity Dan Aykroyd’s belief in UFO and Alien existence, as well as Suppression of Authority by mentioning that the government has covered up sightings and other “phenomenon”. The belief in such existences speak to that of the Unexplained, because it lacks so much evidence to confirm. It also speaks to the belief of Agenticity because people want to believe that there is a higher power or knowledge, such as Alien life which many believe is more advanced than our own.

It displays the Unexplained, Agenticity, and Emotional Connection beliefs. It also displays, in large, the Proof by Verbosity red flag, by pushing many unexplained theories. It also displays Appeal to Authority by mentioning a Senators belief, as well as Suppression by Authority by explaining the government cover-up conspiracy. It fails to explain the scientific proof that rules out such beliefs in UFOs.

The claim is that was an “encounter” with a UFO. This observation can be explained by a confirmation bias and a belief resulting from the Unexplained and Perception/Observation. Anyone, depending on their belief and the way their minds perceive objects, could see something different. To me it looks like a Batman Signal from the Batman movies/ tv shows. However, I know this is not possible because batman is a made-up character from a person’s imagination. However, scientifically we know that there is the possibility of life outside of our world, so this results in the belief of the object shown, being a UFO instead of something more scientifically explainable and believable such as another man-made air craft or perhaps a satellite.

If you search “UFO” this is the standard image you would find. Mostly due to Hollywood’s depiction of what a UFO is and encounters with alien abduction. Thanks to Hollywood’s depiction, a lot of people will see lights in the sky and think of a UFO. They look a lot like UFO’s as we know, thanks to media so it seems very convincing. However, the image is actually fake. It was created for a “Fake UFO picture” contest. The person had taken the picture during a previous flight, and with the help of an iPhone application, the photographer was able to place these three objects within the photo. The point of this post is that there are people who create fake images of UFOs to try to prove their belief is real. This could be an example of the Unexplained, reason for belief. We can’t prove that they do not exist but we have no physical proof that they do. A red flag that could be tied to this belief is Suppression by Authority. It is likely that someone who feels so strongly about such a belief, will be the kind of person to go as far as to create a fake image, to spread belief in such subjects. It has been proven that people have gone to such lengths before.
