On the 24th of August I enrolled into college, I brought in my certificate for my GCSEs and spoke to Kirsty about my grades. I could have been more forthcoming with information but I was nervous and not very confident being in a new environment. I spoke to Kirsty about my goals and aspirations about my future career and why I chose travel and tourism.

The workplace
I work as a waitress , this improves my communication skills because I have to interact with new people every shift I work, and I go in there with an open mind and a bright smile , have to communicate with the customers to make sure they are given the right order and would like any condiments to go with it. To improve this skill I may need to be more chatty and less reserved.

Making new friends
Enrolling in a new college where I have very few friends has been difficult I am use to having my friends around me for support , however I’m on my own at the minute so to improve my situation I have spoken to new people and communicated with others this has built my communication skills and also added to my social life. I think I do this well because I have made some really good friends, however i could still improve this by being more confident in myself.

During class on Monday we created a paper blanket that had a small piece of paper for everyone. One the paper we had our name4 and a face about us. During this lesson we had to work together to create a blanket and connect all our pieces of paper. We worked together and we did create the blanket however we could have improved this by speaking more and getting more involved.

At work we work in a team. When I work weddings we have to had out meals in specific orders and we have to know what tables are being served first I am usually serving starters and desserts and me and one of my co-workers do this together but everyone has their specific jobs so when we hand out a starter and they finish someone will come around remove the empty plates and other co-worker with come round with mains. We all work in team but we also help each other out if its a large table and there's only one member of staff on clean up we go and help even though that's not our job.

On one of my first weeks of college we were assigned a task called About me which was essentially a presentation all about me. We had to stand at the front of the class and present the about me to help are peers know more about you. During this we answered questions and spoke to people I hadn't had the courage to speak to before. However I could have improved this by speaking to more people.

Coming into College

I get up early in the morning every Monday and Tuesday to make sure I get into college on time. I am motivated to get up the morning at the thought of my near future this year I became a legal adult and I don't want to wake up one day and have regrets. I want to try my hardest to make sure I can have the best education possible. I make sure I try my best and I make sure to have a alarm and a routine in the morning to ensure I can be motivated.

When I come into college what helps me get out of bed is the thought of seeing all my friends. My friends brighten my days and make me smile. If I feel down and drained from work and college. I motivate myself by remembering how my friends make me feel happy and however I feel at the time I know when I see my friends I will feel better.

Work

I work as a waitress at a bar\ Hotel. The pay is low and many of the customers are rude and entitled. So to motivate myself to think of my money and my co-workers. My money might be low but to a 17 year old who is a part time waitress it motivates me because I know how much I can save and what it can go towards ( my future). My co-workers make me feel happy even excited to go into work because no matter how tiring and difficult work is when you have friends who are experiencing the same thing as you and you spend so much time with at work you can always feel motivated.

I show up to lessons on time, I make sure I am there bright and early in the morning ready for the day. This shows reliability because my teachers know they can rely on me to show up on time so they can start there lessons positively and on time.

I make sure to hand in my work on time on every deadline, I make sure to manage my time efficiently and organised to make sure I have time to juggle my work life, home life and school life making it easy to make sure my work is on time.

During college In my Cabin Crew lesson we had to do a presentation on an item we had made up, that would be useful for traveling, It had to be a 1 minute long and we had to make up this presentation in 15 minutes due to nerves we all sped through our lines and we were finished in like 30 seconds, so as a group we had to think up things on the spot and I had to encourage some of my team as they felt on the spot and couldn't think of something on the spot.

In my work place we have new starters all the time as a lot of our regular waiters are at Uni and college a lot of the time, so when we get a new workers they have to be trained up and told and shown what to do, We had a new starter start recently and I helped him with work I showed him where things were , where they go and what they do, I showed him around and I introduced him to people.

At college when we have assignments all due in from different teachers but we are maybe behind or stuck on specific ones I have helped my friends with work and assignments, If I know what I am doing then there's no harm in helping others.

I work as a waitress at a bar and hotel, I serve food and I am training to serve drinks as well as I am almost 18. I clean up the bar and play area and I clear and reset tables. I am able to deal with customer completes really well and I always make sure that if a customer has a problem it either dealt with from me personally if I can help but If I cant I inform a manager. If I did this job in the future I think I will be more confident and less reliant on others. From this work experience I have achieved good social skills, customer service skills and team work skills.

Charity Raise

I have taken part in a charity raise for Barnsley Hospice, we did a Raffle and a bake sale to raise money for Barnsley Hospice. We managed to raise around £180 for the charity. If I did it again Id be more persistent and I would maybe have more of a variety for people to buy to maybe raise a bit more money. From this I achieved our goal of raising over £50 for the charity and I got to interact with people and build more customer service skills.

We arranged another bake sale to raise money for Our Travel and tourism department. We managed to raise enough money so it can go towards a discounted trip for travel and tourism to enjoy. If I did it again I would maybe branch out move around college, go to the construction centre as well rather than just staying in our college building. From this I achieved more team building and communication skills as I was interacting with new people.
