The amygdala is the part of the brain that controls our response to anger and is located in the frontal portion of the temporal lobe. The "fight or flight" response is triggered here. The virus from zombies makes the amygdala only use the "fight" response to anger, making zombies overly aggressive.

The part of the brain that control motor movement is the cerebellum. This part of the brain is located in the back of the brain and controls balance, control, coordination and muscle control. A zombie's way of movement is called a lumbering walk. They are very slow and its almost as if they are waddling. The virus would affect the cerebellum and they are unable to walk correctly.

The hippocampus is located next to the medial temporal lobe and is associated with memory. The virus attacks the hippocampus causing zombies to be unable to remember events and people from their pasts. Because of this, they may possibly carry out harmful actions to people they used to care about.

The Wernicke's area is located in the temporal lobe on the left side of the brain and is important for language development. The zombie virus, attacks the wernicke's area, ruining the zombie's ability to speak at all. This is why zombies mumble and moan instead of speaking real words and being able to communicate like humans.

The thalamus receives pain from the pain receptors in the spinal cord, which are then sent to the cerebral cortex. The virus from the zombies inhibits the thalamus from working properly. They can no longer sense pain. Because of this, if they lose an arm or leg, or become injured in anyway, they wouldn't feel it.

In the zombie virus, the hypothalamus doesn't receive hunger signals properly and causes the insatiable hunger of zombies.

It is said that to kill a zombie, you must shoot its brain but you want to ensure that it will die because it is the only part of the zombie that is really still alive. To do this, you want to shoot the hypothalamus, specifically, because it controls all major functions and needs of the zombie. It would have no need to kill people to eat and all regulation would be immediately inhibited.
