- nationalism was promoted in Japan
-It was stressed upon that Japan had NOT been colonised by the westerners (hinting that Japan was 'original')
- Japan's successes were celebrated with pride, such as the Russo-Japanese war, Sino-Japanese war.
- The Military was respected deeply
