I think a lot of the coded language that I hear in education is a product of previous failed attempts to address the issue of systemic racism. Phrases like "college ready," "at-risk youth," and "achievement gap" are all terms that have been used in education research and thus have become a part of public education lingo.

I can't think of anything "coded" I've noticed off the top of my head, but I will mention something I struggle with. When I have ESOL students (especially lower levels), I need to figure out how well they can comprehend what I'm saying in English. Sometimes they are very shy/silent and I can't tell if they understand (my inclination is no). I find myself dancing around the question "Are you able to understand what I'm saying and my instructions in English?" I feel like it might make them feel bad to say they don't. I don't know how else to figure out how proficient they are. Also, I do have a limited ability to speak in Spanish with students, and I do it a lot - though I know my Spanish is sometimes crappy. I've continued to do it because the reactions I get from students tell me that it seems to be a positive experience for them and that they're not offended, though I sometimes worry that I'll offend them as a white woman trying to talk to them in Spanish. This hasn't been my experience in the world - usually it's excitement that a white woman can speak Spanish - but I'm always fearful of even asking "hablas espanol?" because maybe I'll be wrong sometime?
