This video looks into children being separated from their parents due to Trump's Family Separation. One of the articles I looked into was about children being isolated away from their parents for two weeks due to COVID-19. This video is about children being separated from their parents for months and sometimes they aren't even reunited. Being taken away from your parents at a young age could have serious effects on children and leave them traumatized as the video stated. I included this video in my research because it's important to understand how much of a toll separation from parents takes on a child's well being.

A great example of family separation is the entire US-Mexico border incident. Millions of families have been separated at the border and some have yet to be reunited. This article was important to look into because not only does it look at the number of families separated but also takes a look into the psychological effects on those families.

This poem is about Barbara exploring the process of grief after losing a loved one. She doesn't want to let go of this memory. The poem is dark and heavy, yet still has elements of joy which promise eventual recovery from the grief. Although this poem isn't directly talking about the topic of family separation, being separated from a loved one is just as hard as losing them. This poem helped me understand the emotions people express as they lose a loved one and showed me how truly difficult it can be

This TED talk spoken by Luis H. Zayas also looks into the crisis of families being separated at the US-Mexico border. Parents are coming to the border to seek refuge into the US after fleeing from horrible situations. The US denies them entry most of the time but take the children and the parents hope they get to live a better life. The kids are put into immigration detention where they are treated like their lives do not matter. Being separated from their parents already has taken a toll on their mental health, so being treated like they're lives are worth nothing isn't helping.

As I looked into family separation and how families were isolated during the pandemic, I realized that COVID-19 was sometimes the reason for family separation. The world had to take a multitude a precautions during the pandemic which led to arguments in certain household which later then turned into families being separated. Even thought I focused my research on COVID just being the time period I was looking into, I noticed that it's important to be aware that it was causing separation as well.

This article talks about family separation during COVID-19 and how it impacted children. During the pandemic when children would catch COVID, they would be isolated from their parents for two weeks. People were trying to put children's physical health first but failed to realized that their mental health was declining during this time of isolation. I specifically chose this article because I wanted to focus my research on a specific time period and, I believe that there is no better time to talk about separation than during COVID.

Amazona by Canizales is a graphic novel about a family that gets forced off their land due to violence. Andrea, the daughter, gets separated from the rest of her family and spends months on this mission to do whatever it takes to be reunited with her family. I chose this book to read while doing my research because it dives into the life of a separated family which is important to see. Reading this book before learning more about this topic helped me to understand more about what I was reading going forward which was important.

When some people hear about family separation, they don't realize how bad of a problem it really is. I decided to especially look into children being separated from their families because there are more cases of it than we realize. This set of data goes to show how extravagant this crisis truly is. Looking at this graph makes me feel like I chose a well driven topic to talk about since it's overlooked.
